What type of electric bill am I looking at per month if I use central AC (leaving it at about 76F to automatically cut off and on itself) in a 3 bedroom 3 bath house not apartment in Santo Domingo?

What is the sq footage of the house, what other appliances, what is the roof like, what is the exposure outside the house? Is there a pool? Water pump for house pressure? My wild guess is $669.69 per month in US dollars.

Each month raise the temp by one degree and you wont notice it too much and save some money.

When my aunt visits the Dr she usually turns on 3 AC units almost running 24 hours per day. Her electric bill for that month is $10,000 pesos more than previous months. If I had to take a guess for you, I would say expect to pay between $10K and $15K more.

24hr central A/C in S.D. I would guesstimate it would be in excess of 20k per month. I have a small 3 bedroom house in S.D. west with 2 small window a/c units that come on at 11pm and off by 10am the next morning (1 computer on 24hrs a day, tv and kids nintendo on all day, 1 fridge and occasional water heater/microwave) and I pay around 10k per month. This month turned out being 14k cause the damn water pump stayed on 10hrs straight one day when the automatic switch broke while I wasnt home.

The biggest problem when your electricity supplier is an EDE is that once you go over 700 KWH in a month, ALL of the electricity is charged at the highest rate which dramatically increases your bill when you cross over that line. It is very painful to use over 700 KWH.

How many KWH is your typical monthly usage?

Jesus! Maybe you should switch to ceiling fans and use a laptop or a tablet instead of having the PC on all day.

The Energy Waster

A/C useage is reduced to about 1-2 weeks a year.

What a waste of energy!

Wrap a wet towel round you and go for a walk at the beach.
The breeze will chill you and you can collect seaweed at the same time. :bunny:

Turksman,
Have a look at this link. How much electricity does my AC consume? | mapawatt It might give you some way of calculating the cost of just running the Central AC but use the cost per kWh here. You also have to add the general running of the house. We average 18-19kWh per day without running the Split ACs. This is for a four bedroom villa with pool.
At 76 F it will be running most of the time except in the winter nights. I did a quick estimate and it looked like 1700 kW per month for the AC and them about 500 kW for the house. That is 22,000 kw or if you are on the north coast = 23800 RD$ or 610 US$.
