From today's Sosua News:
[h=5]Four years ago, one morning it had suddenly disappeared: the cast-bronze statue of King Neptune.[/h][h=5]It was located on a large rock in front of the beach at the Malec?n in Puerto Plata. The statue was always visible from the Malec?n, even with bad weather, and was considered as the mascot of the port. But metal thieves had struck and cut the statue in pieces and took it with them. Fortunately, the police could trace the thieves, because even seasoned metal thieves can not keep their identities secret for long. The cut into pieces statue was temporarily stored behind the police station. After much protest actions and campaigns of indignant residents of Puerto Plata, the statue, thanks to donors, could be soldered back together again after four years. Monday, July 30 the Air Force sent a helicopter to put the statue on top of the rock on his pedestal again. But the statue was too heavy, the helicopter was able to put the statue upright but couldn't lift it from the ground. Now we are waiting on a larger and stronger helicopter to lift King Neptune back to his rightful place.[/h]
