IF IT'S RAINING IN SOSUA

Should you be in Sosua and run into some liquid sunshine here are a few suggestions you might entertain to pass the time. Hopefully you remembered to pack a poncho or slicker. You could start by wandering down to the end of the road at the entrance to The Waterfront Hotel. When the sea is rough this is a great spot to spend a few minutes watching the waves crashing in on the rocks. You could go to an Internet caf? to send and receive emails or check your local newspaper. You can send Sosua postcards at www.sosua.com You could go to Eddy?s Sports Bar and watch an international sporting event. If nothing is on the telly you can shoot some pool at Eddy?s. You could head to the Britannia Pub on the Main Street and shoot the breeze with Lindo the head bartender. He was born in Sosua and is the master of perfect pinacoladas. Here too, if you wish you can make a donation to the Sosua Kids Association which raises money to help send poor kids to school. Further down the street you might stop in at PJ?s bar to watch some TV or buy a few peal and win tickets for 5 pesos each. Next door is La Roca where you can surf the net play some pool or just relax watching the passing scene from their terrace. Now you can go down the lane to the beach. This would be a good day to buy some souvenirs from one of the casitas on the lane or along the beach since there won?t be much action in the shops. If you walk along the beach to Charamicos, the non-touristy part of Sosua you could spend a few minutes in the RC church. (straight up the road from the beach) or check out some of the shops. You might also on a rainy day take a gua-gua (mini bus) into Puerto Plata. Here you can visit the cathedral, right beside the Central Park or do some shopping at Casa Nelson. It is nearby and offers friendly staff and lots to choose from. You could enjoy lunch at Caf? Cito or Sam?s Bar and Grill and still be back to Sosua by late afternoon. Another way to pass some time in Sosua is to take a Vacation Club (Time-Share) tour. Be forewarned; in order to get your free tshirts, rum or whatever there will be a very strong sales pitch. So, don?t take one of these tours unless you are really strong-minded. In any case if it does rain in Sosua, take heart, you can always stay in bed with the one you love. But you can always do that at home can?t you?
