We don't hear much about the city council. Does anybody know what it does and how it's role in relation to the mayor?

[h=5]The councilor Johnny Matos who also owns the TV station Canal 12, was elected as the new chairman of the city council a few days ago.[/h][h=5]He succeeds Aquilina Medina, who has been chairman for the past two years. The council consists of seven members, three members of the PLD (Partido de la Liberaci?n Dominicana), two members of the PRD (Partido Revolucionarios Dominicano) and a member of the PRSC (Partido Reformista Social Cristiano). Johnny was unanimously elected chairman. In his word of thanks, the new chairman said that he felt very honored with this position and that he will commit himself completely for the community of Sos?a.[/h]
