From Cabarete, its on that main road you drive all the way, #5,
After the Isla entering Nagua, watch on the left - one of those tire shops or moto repair places.

Your #1 problem is you're looking for a needle in a haystack.

I doubt there are 1000 motorcycles over 125-150cc in the entire country. When you take out those over 600cc, the number drops like a rock. Those for sale drops even more, since the larger bikes are owned for a hobby primarily by foreigners or wealthier foreign-influenced Dominicans.

Well you are correct , yet living on a tropical island is a fantasy for many in the world , and we are actually doing it , so it won't harm me to stop for a half hour and peer through ALICES IN WONDRELANDS EYE PIECE., and fall flat on my butt , if I do find it ,the price it will BE !!!!!!

Is it worth owning a big road bike, what I am reading is that they bring a considerable amount of unwanted attention, but reading this opinion from those who own or have owned bikes so it is confusing, if it is that bad then surely people wouldn't own them. What exactly is the problem attention?

The real challenge , and you are correct it would draw attention , that and the most important reason to think about a better choice is the roads in the DR ,THEY WOULD TEAR THE BIKE APART .The wise Cobra brought me back to reality!!! I have been in another part of the world and forgot about the batently obvious !

So sorry you can see the bike if you hit view all on the previous post cost 100 mil pesos, bike found in Nagua iam from Imbert yamaha 06 250yz I think.... Owner was from NY who got bored I guess, Now the most important lesson I learned here was that Motocross's only have the Matricula no other papers and of coarse in true DR style the papers could not be found. Iam in Nagua at this point, called my father in law who is something in the police dept. 4 leaves on his lapel cant figuire it out yet.

He's talking to the owner who is carring a gun just as big as my father in law and they are going back and forth. I just so happen to be in nagua with a owner of a import export business who says he knows how to take care of this. I say to my self iam about to get fleeced. Everybody heads off to the local police station, my friend says you wait in the jeep....ok. Half hour later owner my friend and two police come out, lets go to the lawyers office, you wait in the jeep....ok 1 hour later they call me in sign this, stamp that passport back. So in my mind iam like what if the bike is stolen, I voice it and am told that that the owner is a leading members of something in nagua and that the police have vouched that the bike has resided all of its time in said place and the lawyer has written up this 3 page document stating that it was a valid sale and iam the owner ummmm. Now iam waiting for the kicker how much in pay offs and I was very surprised 1500.00 pesos for lawyer 500.00 pesos each police couldnt belive it. Being the NYorker iam on the phone with father in law to make sure this is a legit deal. Could I have been scammed, anyone can get scammed and would I do it again? Proberly, but you have to have people that understand how things work in DR. The bike was visited two times by family members and a mechanic before a deal was made so all in all I got the bike, now looking for a sportbike at a good price

Pphhhoa, I dunno, runarounds like that make me nervous, police vouching for anything means squat, the lawyers stamp probably means squat also if a guy comes along with the original papers and wants his bike back.
It might just be the way they do business, messy and unprepared, you would think things would have been mentioned from the off wouldn't you.
Anyway, you've got a very good deal at the end, as long as you get to keep it. But any passing thought of a bike or car possibly being nicked and I just walk, not because I mind riding around on stolen goods (I know it should be), but more so that it only promotes the next bike nicked to do the same again, and I'd be pretty pi$$ed if my bike was stolen and sold for half it's worth.
But I bet it's legit so well done, enjoy yourself.
There is an R1 on S/C's, $9500, but I'm kind of morally contracted to Honda, if I even had that cash to blow on toys:cry: kids, who'd av em:cross-eye.

I agree with you Give and the only reason I let the transaction go through was the fact that we had been there three times and nothing is a secret in DR especially a American walking into another town and plunking down cash on a motocross. If it was nicked someone would by now shown up in Imbert demanding resolution. The sale was very out in the open and when we were test driving the bike all four of us am sure someone would of said something if it wasnt legit. Hell I cant even have a drink in another town without my wife knowing lol.........
