Looking for a kitten. A little nervous about getting a pet here, mainly health wise and getting it's shots. Any advice for getting a kitten here? Can they drink the tab? Any pet stores in SD or is it all really word of mouth? Thanks!!!

go to any vet and they should have some kittens to give away. or simply ask any dominican. in barrios there are always kittens.
ours cats drink from the tap and eat dry food plus whatever they manage to beg :)
shots can be done at any clinic, you can even to it yourself (that is buy meds and do the injecting, we do that). we have a cat with epilepsy, medicine and care is not a problem.

one thing: only get a pet if you are committed to DR. because re-housing an animal when you leave if difficult....

Take a kitten from the street, don't waste money on shots. The animal has more chance of dying of illness or just getting ill if you weaken it's immune system by starting the shots, and if it has been a street cat then the immune system will be strong, or it would be unwell or dead by now.
Vaccination are only any good if you keep them up, continue to boost them. If you start then stop the animal ( ammune systemh) becomes vulnerable to health issues as it has lost its crutch.

You can also go to or call PADELA in Zona Colonial. They rescue cats and dogs and always have a good selection of ages and colors to choose from.

my daughter found a kitten in front of our hose about 2 weeks ago, skinny, you could even count its ribs...now after "bolitas" kitten dry food and milk its a real keeper. Its not allowed inside the house catches lizards, birds and keeps the rats at bay, cant complain. but as far as shoots no way......
If you go to any pet store they will normally give you a kitten if you buy their food their.

Keep at it, Barry.... they'll learn !!

We had more 'tail-less' chameleons/lizards when the cats were young.... they catch them later.

As for getting a kitten - just ask around, tons of 'em out there

It's just getting tiresome catching mosquitoes in my mouth while they just stare............
They just aren't concentrating...........
Dumb cats........

Better give up, or you'll soon find yourself killing mosquitoes for the cat. That's cats' nature...

my cats do not catch mosquitoes. a mosquito is not as impressive gift to be found in one's shoe as a mice. we find lots of strange things in our shoes in the morning: from cucarachas to mice and spiders.
