anyone know a fridge repair man in sosua - whenever we have bought a new one someone usually tells us we could have had it repaired- so Im asking first this time ;-)

the freezer bit is working but the fridge doesnt seem to be cold , so Im presuming its some sort of fan or timer as I have checked for ice build up in the drain.

Its not an expensive fridge so I would be interested to know what sort of repair cost we would be talking about

We had an older washing machine that wouldn't agitate, Mr. AE asked our caretaker about a repairman, and the next day a guy showed up and worked on it for about 45 minutes. Charged us 500 pesos. Repair lasted a couple of years. The next time it died we bought a new one, and sold the old one to the iron/junk man for 300 pesos, haha.

Always get a repair price first, Dominicans can fix almost anything, and very cheaply. Ask any Dominican and they will know someone.

jr,
This sounds a bit like the defrost heater not working - is it a frost free fridge ? Or possibly the fan - can you hear a fan running up near the freezer ? Try switching it off to defrost and then see if it works after that. It will work for a while until the cooling coils get iced up again - about 2-3 days.
As the compressor is running since the freezer is working its either defrost heater or fan. If it is the defrost heater about 500 RD$ for the new element and about 1000 -1500 RD$ for a visit . Freddys opposite Productos Sosua can do it ! They can either come to you or you can take the fridge to them.

you can try Cristian, Dominican guy, but I would recommend him. He has been repairing fridges for a friend and she recommends him as well. He doesn't speak English, and his number is 809-323-2722. Excellent pricing and great work.
I think he is located in Sosua.....

I have had reason to use Ignacio on several occasions and would definitely recommend his work and his pricing.

If the freezer is working, it's not the compressor and it's not the gas (refridgerant). If it's a frost free model it could be the defrost timer or the fan and worth fixing.

thanks for all the suggestions- in the end a builder friend recommended one of his wokers who came and mended it for 500 pesos- and two of you were correct that it was the defrost timer that needed repairing

I have had both 'fridge and wine cooler repairs done well and economically..

Both were NoAmerican(not local) items
