I'm after some feedback in what the demand would be for a European food store, selling food brands and products that aren't available in the main stream supermarkets. So if your European and living permanently in the Dominican Republic let me know your thoughts and share where your from :D

Well its still in the early days i'm just doing my research at the moment, probably the main products will be things like condiments, sweets, beverages, canned foods, it all depends on what is already available. The majority of the brands will probably be English, eastern European, German and Swedish.

That would be more viable because you can already get a lot of Spanish, Italian and French foods here. Note that Swedish food products are available at Ikea. Whether there is a large enough market would depend on your location. I'm in for Shreddies and Marmite!

OK, I will go for bryndza (sheep milk cheese), tokay wine, and all sorts of german and central european sausages (klobasa) and sweet quark cheese (tvaroh). Don't forget the chocaletes, my favorite Studentsk? pe?e? and I hope you will import them at non-US prices (back home the price is 1 Euro for the big bar, in US/Canada about 4 dollars).

a store just like this opened recently in punta cana. It's called "Euro Market" or something like that. on the right side of the road (coming from the airport) just before you get into the heart of Cortecito.

Thank you for those ideas i have made a note of all of them, Yes the biggest part of this will be finding a good supplier so i can make my prices reasonable.

German Products

i was trying to see if there was something similar already. thanks :D

In Santo Domingo, Sos?a and Las Terrenas there are good German butchers.
[Other places may also have them, but I am not aware of them.]
They also have a limited range of other German products.

Of course, your idea would only be successful in places with many foreigners and there you'd meet an already established competition. As it was said already, the largest communities are already catered for. Thus not easy...

You can buy almost any English product via Amazon and have it shipped to you via Vimenpaq.

II regularly buy Irish Tea, Dark Chocolate Gingers, Frank Cooper's Marmalade, Branston Pickle, Cadbury's Mars Bars, Crunchies etc.

Superbly packed as they appreciate that the delivery address is Miami, Florida.

Ever think about opening a "Euro Zone" restaurant?
You could have a "Continental Menu", and also sell "European Delicacies/non-perishable" foods as well.
Some "Italian Restaurants" also feature wine, dried, and fresh pastas, and Italian salami, sausage, cheese, and more.
I go, select some "Food", and the chef cooks it however you like.
I go in the morning and select some wines to go with the meal.
The "Whites" are chilled, the "Reds" decanted to "Breath" before we arrive.

Damn, another one who forgets Belgium!!!

I haven't tried it, but English friends of ours are always on the look-out for "daddy's sauce"

I have my parents send over a box with dutch food / snacks, every now and then....a store that would sell some of the following would have me as a client:

Dutch snacks (frikandellen, kroketten, bitterballen)
Calve Pindakaas (peanutbutter)
Lays chips (paprika)
Senseo coffee pads
Sugar squares

And if there would just be someone selling bread the way bread is supposed to be I would be a faithful customer too.
