in just few weeks we will have a bunch of visitors, a couple coming from chicago and a girlfriend from london. they all come here with different expectations and different needs. i would like for all of them to enjoy their holidays so please do read on and help me with some inquiries:

1. beaches
yeah, they want nice peaceful beaches where the girls can go topless, maybe, and the boys? well, they can watch the girls go topless. one hour drive from POP or so. quiet, relaxing, not crowded. i will take them to luperon (there is a small beach close to the marina) but i am looking at other options. any ideas?

2. night life
i never go anywhere, really, i am totally domesticated. where can we go in POP? american/european music only/mostly? what clubs? how much will i be expected to pay to get in? a couple are avid salsa dancers, is there any place with mostly salsa? or dominican music, but not in a barrio where we will get our throats slashed?

3. casino
what can i do, they want a james bond adventure with poker game. ocean world is next door so i planned on going there. but i have never been in a casino so do not let me look like a fool. what should we wear? i kinda fancy myself as a giggling beauty in an evening gown, can i? or just a short dress and jeans plus polo for guys? how do i even start? i will not play at all (not interested), can i just watch? is there a bar? what should i expect to pay for drinks there?

4. to do/see in POP
ok, i have my own weakness, our local cemetery, great thing. where else can i take them? teleferico they all have seen. maybe a river trip? what do you suggest?

Cabarete has a beautiful beach but it is not so private. North of Sousua there are some nice very quiet beaches off the beaten path... Laguna beach used to never see a soul but it was pristeen and quite for those topless bathers.... I haven't been there in a few years and I know there was construction going on nearby at the time but it's worth checking out. PURE in POP in the Cost Dorada resort (I think) has a casino attached to it as well as Ocean world's casino. Ocean world also has the Lighthouse disco on the top floor. Attire is casual - you'll be fine. Yes you can watch. there's no entry fee to get into the casino and if I remember correctly, there's waitresses that will bring you drinks on the casino floor. Be prepared to pay $5-6 US per drink or $2-3 for a beer... your better off with bottle service if you visit either one of these night clubs. One other thing about the disco/casino... although PURE is open every night, Ocean world is not - so check to make sure they are open before you go down there. There's a nice little breakfast/lunch/dinner place called TamTam right on the malecon in POP - small but the staff is pleasant and the mangu is excellent. Another restaurant, if you want to take them to a traditional Dominican fish fry, is MaiMon, about 10 minutes north of Ocean World, on the right side of the road. The fish is fantastico! As for touristy stuff... I'm a fan of Cabarete's beach on a breezy day when the wind surfers are out in full bloom - great to watch and the restaurants are abundant. There's always 27 waterfalls - I believe it's a few hours away - and you can pick up info at any of the hotels. Have fun! I wish I was there- but I'm stuck in Chicago for now....

(tx hold em) Poker game at Ocean World Casino is cash game on Thursdays nights around 9pm and small tournament Saturdays at 7pm. expect about 100 dollars to enter games.

Lighthouse Disco on top of casino is open Thur Fri Sat. ...there are some special events where its rented out privately so it may be good to check in advance.

take them to Magante beach close to Rio San Juan, during the week. Great beach, great food, and completely deserted, so topless no probs. Please tell me when you take them... mwhoehaaaaaa...

Let them visit the GriGri lagoon at Rio San Juan. Or even better get them to book njoytours.com, and spend a day deep sea fishing, visiting the lagoon, snorkeling at the piscina natural, visiting playa caleton (nice beach, but if they go topless, I am not responsible for the outcome... lol), and some great tubing.

No advice about disco's or casino's as they are not my scene either...

Beaches within an hour:

I'll try to get this right.. Often, I stop a little beach before Gaspar Hernandez after a tough day of grocery shopping at Playero.
Never naybody there (pls tell me when your topless friends will be there).

Its after when the road opens onto the ocean but way before GH.

There are several VERY RD roadside restaurants and always crowded.

I change my clothes right there - nobody around and a really nice sandy beach.

Pushing your 1 hr limit is Playa Grande and Caleton ...both just past RSJ.

Take my first suggestion ... you'll be alone and well treated.

I can't belive the CHI girl goes Topless on the great lake theIndians called 'Michigan"

RE:
Topless Beaches: The beach off of the 7th hole at Playa Dorada used to be topless..I think it was part of Jack Tar??? zHaven't been there is years.
Punta Rucia is nice for two reasons or maybe three.
1) Getting there via road to Luperon/Ranchito/Isabela/Estero Hondo->La Ensenada is beautiful and "real" Dominican. Lots of places to get good, cold beers on the way.
2) The beach at La Ensenada is beautiful
3) The food a places like ELSA's is very very very good....

Side note:
I was in POP on Friday, and we passed by TAM TAM....a bunch of sankies, smelly Europeans....I looked at my son and we nodded and went away. We ended up at a more Dominican restaurant across from Montemar entrance, down from the Palace of Justice? From the Rotonda...Puerto Fino, I think...pretty fair food and the beers were cold. (Thanks to DavidZ for the "heads up" on that one other place!!)

Another note: Santiago is what? An hour 15 from POP? Centro Leon, great places to dance, an adventure of an overnight? Casual is the word...Good casinos, discos, clubs....Get a couple of rooms at Hotel Los Jardines and party until dawn...Eat breakfast at Supermercado Central at any hour of the night or dawn (really). and then head back to the campo...(HEHEHE)

thanks, guys. only one girl actually is into this whole beach scene. i think she has the urge to showcase her set of cans, that has to be one of the biggest mammiferous feast i have ever set my eyes upon.
i guess we will head to luperon/punta rucia one day and then off towards rio san juan some other day. my friend can air her ginormous gazongas as much as she wants. the rest of us will just join in and pass unnoticed, i am sure ;)

HB, we will go to santiago too, centro leon, monumento, cemetery and lunch. that will satisfy friend number two who is less into sand and a lot more into culture. i do not think we can pass the night, our cat needs medicine 3 times a day so we try to stay home.
