Another thread http://www.dr1.com/forums/living/127537-hypocrisy-what-17.html was about expats who seem to have the LOWEST opinion of the people of the country they HAVE CHOSEN, yet REMAIN in it. The OP asks whether those expats (the ones who despise or find nothing good to say about ALL the people from the country they have CHOSEN TO REMAIN IN) aren't hypocrites by not moving to another of the 200 countries of this planet. Oddly enough the discussion evolved toward the propensity of some to make what otherwise be called ethnic slurs against, you guest it, the people from the country that has accepted them as expats.

It is a monumental shame that at this stage and age, second decade of the 21th century, one has to explain to purportedly 'educated' people from 'developed' countries where supposedly the 'education' system is less deficient than the DR's that:

RACIAL /ETHNIC/GENDER SLURS ARE WRONG.

RACIAL/ETHNIC/GENDER sweeping generalisations are WRONG.

RACIAL/ETHNIC/GENDER stereotyping IS WRONG.

They are wrong against any group of people.

They are particularly wrong against the people who are HOSTING YOU in THEIR country.

When you are a guest in a home, you don't turn around and start insulting the people who are HOSTING you. You certainly wouldn't direct racial/ethnic slurs at them. That'd be considered DESPICABLE infra-human conduct.

It is no better when applied at the country level. A modicum of gratitude should prevent you from insulting the people who have opened THEIR country to you. Whether some realise it or not, Dominicans have NO obligation to accept any non-Dominican into their "home". Least you can do, is to show a modicum of human decency and NOT direct racial/ethnic SLURS at those hosting you.

But the worse part is the hypocrisy and the double-standards. Here posts are edited or deleted, thread closed and users banned for relatively simple "offences".

Racial/ethnic slurs against Blacks and Jews a generally not tolerated. Gender insults, especially against women, are generally not tolerated.

WHY ON EARTH ARE ETHNIC SLURS AND CRUDE INSULTS AGAINST DOMINICANS tolerated???
WHY?

Oh, yes, they are 'jokes'.

Well why aren't all RACIAL/ETHNIC/GENDER SLURS/INSULTS treated as 'jokes' then???

RACIAL/ETHNIC/GENDER SLURS/INSULTS/STEREOTYPING/GENERALISING are no laughing matter.
They SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED no matter WHO does it, or AGAINST WHOM.

You have exDominicanted him?
Der Fish

Yea.. another thing that sorta irks me is overly proud Dominicans who don't even live here... I even hated seeing it when I lived in the US, it's akin to a black man that lives in the US defending his African roots.. oh come on already..
