We went to la Entrada this morning.

While there, 2 bright orange flamingos flew by - up/down the beach until landing in the lagoon where the rio enters the ocean.

Beautiful birds in flight, the brightest orange you can imagine....

The locals had never seen a flamingo before..... here or ever.

Do you suppose these two were blown off course somehow by Sandy?
Or does anybody know of flamingo colonies here in RD?

Colours run from pink through orange to crimson.

Great fun to see them on the north coast.

there used to be some in luperon, but in a hotel, I believe there are some wild ones in the south west where the crocodiles are

if you have two and want to breed them you have to use mirrors as they only breed in company

I saw a flock of flamingoes from the plane during a flight from Port-de-Paix to Port-au-Prince; we were somewhere over the west coast around Gonaives. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

The other place where I think there are flamingoes is the Laguna de Oviedo in the SW.
