Where exactly in Cabrera is this house. Am I able to drive up to the house, or is it inside a gated community? Is there any restaurants nearby worth visiting? I'm only familiar with the restaurant/hotel up in the hills of Cabrera--i can't think of the name right now--but it's right past Playa Grande on the right hand side--coming from Cabarete. It's only a 5 minute drive frome the main highway.

The hotel/restaurant you're thinking of is probably Catalina. There aren't many other hotel options in the Cabrera area, a few more in Rio San Juan...a couple of smaller places, The Palace at Playa Grande, and a huge AI, Bahia Principe. There is also a clothing optional resort...I think it's called Caribe Caliente or something like that...could be an interesting option!

Casa Kimball is located inside Orchid Bay, a gated community.

You can get a very close view of it from Cabrera if you get directions to the old airport road in Cabrera.

Go to the end and look over to the right.... you can see right in.

It backs in to the local housing there.

Thanks David & William,

Catalina is exactly the hotel i was thinking of. I will take your direction advice and see if i can get a good look at it from the old airport road, which, until now, i have never heard of before. Sounds interesting.

Thanks, frank

yes, la Catalina is the hotel.

I ran into some tenants of Casa Kimball at la Catalina one night in the rain.
They went there for dinner b/c the house leaked so badly.

As you can see, the design is very attractive (to me, anyway) but it offers little to no protection from the tropical weather.

Last time I was in it I noticed rotting at the bottom of the windows.

As I say, nice looking - but I'm glad I don't own it.

What do you expect for $2,400 US and up for a night?
