US Embassy Warning About Cholera in Moca

The U.S. Embassy would like to inform all U.S. citizens residing in the Dominican Republic that there is a reported rise in cholera cases in the city of Moca in the Dominican Republic. U.S. citizens are reminded to take proper precautions to prevent the spread of cholera, and to seek medical treatment immediately if cholera symptoms arise.

An ongoing outbreak of cholera has continued since November 2010. Most recently, the Dominican press has reported that 323 people have been hospitalized with cholera symptoms in the city of Moca. According to Dominican health authorities the focus of the contamination seems to be the Moca River. U.S. citizens should take precautions to avoid bathing in or drinking from the Moca River.
