Taking a printer on a flight?

I don't think it matters what your friend does for a living. As they as they have a boarding pass and the other required documentation you should be fine taking them along.

The only issue i can see is with the ink cartages, is it an ink jet or a laser? I would take out the ink if it is an ink jet and tape up the nozzle. A laser uses ink powder so best to put this in a sealed bag. What printer is it?

Not a problem. I put an new Epson NX 230 in my carryon bag on Jet Blue. Protected by clothes.. Had to take it out at JFK to run through security and repack it....Put the ink cartridges(4) in a small plastic bag. AND LEFT THEM AT NYC>. OOPS!

I would not put it in as checked. You might get it back in pieces they way some bag handling is....Good luck!
