This is what I like about DR...
There are 1000 lights, if I have to do it myself it will take all Sunday afternoon and I'm sure I will be told I didn't do it well, so I rather pay 1200 pesos (and 700 to remove them again in January).

I'm more concerned about who whacked the 4 guys in the hallway. Brutal! Especially the guy in black. Ajuste de cuentas? :laugh:

Not only that, in My country they would charge you ?50 just for appearing at your door. I actually think most gringos wouldn't pay for this....if it s for me we wouldn't even have a tree, and it's more something for the (higher-end of the) Dominican middle class to want to pay for a service like this, and consider 1200 pesos a reasonable price.
In my country I would do anything that I would think I could handle myself, but I noticed that due to the climate the slightest manual work makes me sweat extremely and get exhausted in a short while, so I better get someone. I'm sure I could have fund a guy putting lights for 300 pesos, but then again, someone would say its not good enough...
Nice tree...I thought I was the only one who paid people to put the lights on...For some reason they always do a better job then I can. Plus less headache for me.
I think a thread titled "What I don't like about the DR" would be more interesting and i don't mean comparing it with your mother country but specifically RD things like - Why are most Dominicans, especially women unable to talk in a normal voice and have to shout all the time?
Is that a real tree or an artificial one? If it's artificial you can buy one that is already prewired with the lights.
