Met up with my friend John at the Texaco in El Batey, Sosua

Watched the morning buzz of the traffic and the great breakfast cooking somewhere in the neighborhood filled the air with a great aroma.

I had to get my game face on for the day cause I knew this was going to be a blast.
(No I don't have a Harley I picked this up in the states and it beats most of the skid lids I have seen down here.)

Just a few miles inland from the turn off in Sosua Abajo you will find beauty like this in abundance.

Picture really does not do this valley justice as to the sheer beauty of it.

Not sure if this was a school or a church but it had really vivid colors, this is also where you must head left towards the river and the destination for today.

Hmmmm looks like it got more rain than we did in Sosua last night this could get interesting.

My riding amigo for the day. He was laughing at this point and having a great time.

Now here is where the story gets interesting, I had told my riding buddy the night before over beers at the Jolly that we had to cross a river. Now mind you I have never before taken this route and I looked it over on google maps to verify about how far certain things were on the trail and I knew we had to cross the river. Well upon arriving at said river there are 2 young boys helping to herd some cattle into the river for a drink. I ask in my glorified Spanglish (yes that is what I call it cause my Spanish sucks growing up near the border in TX so it is horrendous and chopped up with lots of English into it just like we spoke back home) if the river is passable? Si uno momento and these boys come over instruct us to basically help them float our bikes across the dang river to the other side. My riding partner was not feeling this so much and was a little apprehensive to say the least at this point. We were able to safely get them across the river, grab the trustly old flatblade screwdriver, drain the float bowl under the carb, refill with some new pusholine and the fired up all but under duress of course following trying to sink them to the bottom. The water crossing was about waist deep in parts and I field dress at 5'10" if that tells you anything. (Note to self wait until the drier months stupid before trying this one again.)

My riding partner is afraid that since we got them running he doesn't want to shut his down so he Banzias down the camino headed for drier land.

All in all a very good day except for some scrapes on my knuckles and knees for taking a double lipped digger soil sample while going down one of the slippery hills and getting cross rutted. I will buff right out with a cold Presidente and maybe some advil. I hope you enjoy and sorry for some of the quality all these photos were taken with an Iphone.
