You know those little typical dominican pollo places. You can get half or quarter pollos with yucca, plantin...
But what should you exactly get for the prices you pay... Cause it isnt clear...
What should you expect for 75 pesos and for 150 pesos...

As far as I know in my decades buying food in the Dominican Republic, there is no standardized pricing for food, neither in the supermercados and colmados nor from street vendors and restaurateurs. They charge want they want. You agree or not or haggle for some extra yuca... and don't forget to ask for extra cebollas.

It's chicken.

tostones again.Your choice with yucca.

The place I always go to in Sosua was (for years) 125 pesos for a half and 250 for a whole chicken with yucca or guineos...they recently went up to 140/280.

Until recently Provocon, a national chain, was 100/200 half/whole with sides at 35 pesos ea. I think they also just raised their prices.

A quarter chicken with rice/beans/salad (or yucca/tostones/etc.) goes for between 80 and 125 pesos throughout most of the country.

200 pesos for a whole roasted chicken out of the city, in a place where they roast chickens and them piggies over coal and wood.
200-250 pesos for a whole roasted chicken in a supermarket
250 for a whole whole roasted chicken in pollo dario, a dominican comedor
60 pesos for two pieces of fried chicken with tostones on the street outside pharmacy
about 100 pesos for plato del dia in most pollo frito places - rice, beans, two pieces of fried chicken

plato del dia has stayed the same for a long time.

My favorite (for pork) is the guy by the airport (Santiago) He hacks off a piece with a machete the size of your forearm and loads up on yucca. Its enough to feed 3 people. He charges 300rd I give him 500.
