services for the elderly

I am looking for soem demographics on the elderly population in the dominicqan republic. I am curious to know if there are any groups that provide services for the elderly or organizations commited to bettering the quality of life of the elderly.
I will be spending the spring in the DR and I am looking for volunteer opportunities with the older population.

Well, ....

we are in a third world country and I never heard of any service like that! I believe, the people who need help (old and young) may can relay on their family members or are just wealthy enough to pay for it! I have not even the slightest idea if this service could be insured the way it is in other countries!

When my kid was thick they wanted to keep it in the hospital or let it go, if I can get a nurse - and these ladies are expensive over here! (If you rent them, not if you employ them!)

But to help other voluntarely - seems rather out of world over here! Because people over here rather abuse you instead of saying thank you!
