From today's Sosua News:

[h=5]A group of doctors from Puerto Rico and the United States arrived in Sos?a. They will give from Thursday to Sunday free medical care to poor residents of Sos?a. The medical care will be given under a cover in the park of the flowers (Parque de Las Flores) near the Sos?a Bay Casino. This is the 10th year that these physicians visit the beach resort for a few days and offer free medical care. Medical care is focused on joint and back pain.[/h]

I saw the article in Sosua news. It is a bit misleading as the photo shows a person getting a massage , not medical treatment.Big difference.

Most publications, including the Sosua News, try to include something for everyone, including the nitpickers.

I understand Ken. Thanks for reporting. However, not nit-picking, a massage is far from medical treatment.

You are a persistent nitpicker. The doctors who are here, according to the article, are specialists in joint and back pain. The photo in Sosua News showed somebody getting treatment on the back. What possible difference can it make to the reader of the article that the person in being treated in the photo was possibly getting a massage rather than medical treatment of the back by an osteopath or chiropractor? If the photo had shown somebody getting dental work you would have a good point, but in this case since the photo showed somebody working on the person's back, which is what the doctors coming here do, I consider it a nit.

Ken. You are persistently wrong. I was simply trying to point out that the article was about "Physicians" treating people. The photo did not depict that !! Furthermore, Chiropractors and Masseuse's are not Physicians. An article about Medical treatment by a Physician is not to be confused with a back massage by a Chiropractor. Fact : A Chiropractor cannot treat sick people, as they are not Medical Doctors.
I realize that "Sosua News" is not a reputable news agency, however when it comes to medicine they should get it right.

How do you know they are really doctors ? or trained to do what they are doing "free" ?
Perhaps they are really witch doctors trained in Tanzania?

If you take the trouble to click on the photo (which I doubt anyone will bother to do other than paulson) in the the Sosua News piece for that day you can see that it is not a medical scene. I think that since the article was written before the doctors arrived and started treating patients that Sosua News probably looked in its files for something they could use to illustrate the article, as is their practice, and found this one.

The important thing, however, is the story. The photo contributes nothing or changes anything. Doctors are coming to work on backs and joints for free on Thursday. That is the news.

I did not include the photo when I took the story from the SN and posted it on DR1.

Why paulson thought it was so urgent to tell DR1ers that a photo unrelated to the article and which they have not seen is a mystery to me. What possible difference does it make to the people who read the story? None that I can see. The idea that free medical care will be given the poor in Sosua later this week will register and they will move on to other things.

I bet if you polled the people who read the piece on the Sosua News website that paulson would be the only one that gave the photo even a second glance.

Ken, Just to be clear. No legitmate Physician is coming to work on "backs and joints" exclusivly.Nothing personal to you. It is obviously a "feel good" story by Sosua News

Perhaps send an editorial to Sosua News on their FEEDBACK page and let us know what happens, after all this is quite important to all ex-pats and Dominicans.

PS: I think you might need to pay Peter a visit and get a "feel good" @ Passions.

Great idea. I prefer the Passions in Santiago however. Maybe we can go together and get a 2 for the price of one. That way you wont have to sneak around El flow for "back treatment".

I would think it is simple, are these people offering free treatments Medical Doctors (MD) Doctors of Osteopathy (DO) or Chiropractors (DC)?

When I read the comment about focus on back and joint I assumed chiropractic, but it could be Orthopedic MD's, not knowing leaves you wondering

Holy cow people!!!!
You guys make the phrase, "no good deed ,goes unpunished" all too real.
Thanks Ken for bringing this kind act to the forefront.
If you are willing to publish some pics of these professionals helping the poor that would be great.
I understand that you need to keep your distance so that those seeking help are not made to feel uncomfortable.

Abosolutely mind blowing that some people will work so hard to find something negative out of such a simple feel good story. I could care less if they get to spend some time on the beach while they are here. Just the fact they will spend some of their time helping the less fortunate is amazing. Much more than most can say.
