i am Costa and new here
56 years old semi retire iron worker from toronto canada.
i wold like to find a small house near samana for aroud $ 125k
and live there for 5 months a year to escape the canadian
cold for now .
i am open to any advice from anyone.
i will visit dr for the 4 time on ian 22/13.

Certainly you can find lots for that money. Just know that with a house.. well.. you are going to have to figure out how to keep your stuff safe while you are gone for five months. Most folks go for a condo where there is security.

just my two cents

others have more experience on this. I only rent here.

If you are only going to live in the DR for part of the year you definitely don't want to buy a house and have to worry about the security aspect. You would be better off to by a condo in a gated community where you can lock up and walk away. Also $125,000 is a little low. You should think more like 150,000 to 175,000 to get something in a good location with the amenities that you will probably want. Check out Las Terrenas. It is a great place to retire. If you speak any French you will feel right at home. There are many Europeans living in LT. Good luck
