Kutaja (Holarrhena antidysenterica)

This is a long shot, but has anyone had experience with using Kutaja against amoebic dysentery in the D.R? It has centuries history of being used expressly for this in Indian medicine and has been shown to be effective in clinical trials.

I'm also wondering about preparation and dosage (preventative and acute).

Thanks!

Clever Lemming,
What is your interest in this - is it for personal use or are you trying to steal the knowledge of the DR Brujas for your own gain? - or some pharmaceutical company ?

Yes, the DR Brujas who import herbs from India and practice Ayurvedic medicine.

This is a joke, right?

Here's a little more info:

"The clinical study records the clinical presentations of forty cases with amoebias and / or giardiasis including the efficacy of Kutaja (Holarrhena antidysenterica) in intestinal amoebiasis. E. H. Cyst passers also have symptoms like loose motions, constipation, flatulence, abdominal cramping, diminished appetite and mucus in stools. Patients with giardiasis have more tendency to diarrhoea and flatulence with no mucus in stools. 70 per cent good response was observed in E. H. Cyst passers when treated with Kutaja bark. Therefore, it appears that well known anti – diarrhoeal traditional herbal drug Kutaja, may be helpful to an extent in treating the amoebiasis. It will prove to be a very economic drug"

CLINICAL STUDIES ON AMOEBIASIS AND GIARDIASIS EVALUATING THE EFFICACY OF KUTAJA (HOLARRHENA ANTIDYSENTERICA) IN ENTAMOEBA HISTOLYTICA CYST PASSERS

Powdered bark is very easy to obtain outside of the D.R. for around $30 a pound...

From that I get that you are a researcher and not interested for your own well being. I have watched many researchers come here for cures only to STEAL the information for large companies and give nothing back. You are obviously a researcher but for Who ?

I would not suggest that people give you information on this board!

Ask any U.S Doctor or Dominican Doctor for that matter, about Kutaja ,and they will chuckle and send you to the Voo-Doo specialist on the other side of the island.

Big Pharma spends all kinds of money checking out tribal/traditional cures then reverse engineering it. Aspirin comes from a tree and it's done pretty well. I wonder what's suppose to be in Mamajuana or is it just a placebo. Is it just one thing that makes it work or a combination?

hmmmm, if you are thinking what i am thinking, or maybe if i am thinking what you are thinking then the desired effect of mamajuana lies, most likely, in alcohol. basically, you get so sloshed you cannot remember whether your member remained limp and silent or not :) ;)

Activated charcoal is available in the health food aisle at Bravo. I've used it for food poisoning. Also, toasted pumpkin seeds are used as "desparasitante". However, I had amoeba and was treated with antiobiotics (or whatever it was, will never forget those painful shots!) which I HIGHLY recommend. You gotta kill that critter dead! ~shalom~

My friend, if you think antibiotics are the drug of choice for amoebas, your internship is over and you are ready to practice medicine in a Dominican public hospital.

Yea... and at Johns Hopkins, Harvard Med. Ctr., Mt. Siani, the Mayo Clinic, etc. etc. and any other reputable institution.

BUT ... I'm sure your M.D. credentials are impeccable.

"

" but this is a joke! Living here since 19 years, worked for a natural doctor, I can tell that most Dominicans don't know anything about the local herbs. Especially not alternatives to cure amebas. Some drink a bit of Baygon! Doctors still give metronidazol and the amebas laugh about it, they know this medication now for years. I welcome cleverlemming for any new ideas about amebas, because all the recommandations I can read here are jokes.
