Does anybody know where HIV testing, or any STD testing for that matter, is done in Santo Domingo or anywhere in the country? Google has offered nothing. Would a person have to have medical insurance here and go to a hospital to be checked or are there any sights that do free testing or offers testing to the public? Thanks in advance for any information you will give.

You can get tested for any STD immediately after having unprotected sex except HIV.
The symptoms of HIV can take up to 6 months to develop. So if you get tested now and the
result comes back negative that does not mean you are in the clear. You have to return for
further testing until you are out of danger.

Try this location, or ask them for the Santo Domingo number:

Informaci?n | Cl?nica de Familia La Romana

www.clinicaabreu.com.do

There is a directory of specialists somewhere floating around.
You will have to pay and they will test your blood for SIDA and various claps.
I hope she was @ least your novia.

A bit dated but a start.

We have one here right on DR1. They now have 3 clinics in Santo Domingo.
Xxpress Clinics - Medical & Dental - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Many private labs here will test for HIV etc, it's not expensive.
e.g. Laboratorio de Referencia (25+ labs/clinics)

Thanks everyone for the info. I have a few more questions if you don't mind. For one, when you say not that expensive, can you please give me a rough number of what that would be. I understand that you may not know the exact number but any well considered guess is appreciated.

Secondly, do these places offer services in English? My spanish, while I am getting better, still needs lots of improvement. And as far as my health is concerned, I would prefer to be able to communicate as clearly and effectively as possible.

Thank you all!

In a private laboratory I think it's like 1000 pesos. That's what the employees test cost and inthinknit includes HIV and other std's.

If your familiar with Santo Domingo go to the Referencia Labratoria just to the right of clinic abreu on Ave Independencia. Just write on a piece of paper - prueba del VIH....and they should be able to figure out what you want from there - like others said it should be less than $1000 pesos - probably 300-400 is my guess.

In the DR, there is a rapid HIV test available, it consist of taking a finger prick sample of blood and you have the results in 3 minutes. It detects HIV within 24 hours of contracting it, so if you contracted HIV 24hrs ago the test will show positive. I presume these are the tests they use to test donar blood.

I went to this place Monday (8/17/15) and learned the following:

The total bill for HIV, Hepatitis B & C, VDR1 (sifilis), herpes, clamidia, and HPV (papilloma) $10,740 DOP

bill for HIV $375 DOP (Good guess Karl.)

bill for HPV $6,400 DOP

I googled the HPV test to learn that there is no FDA approved test for males. Referencia didn't tell me this when I asked the price, but I wasn't speaking to a test administrator.

Their phone: (809) 221-5545

Not much English.

You almost save the cost of a health insurance plan with the first series of tests.

I had most of these done last week and it did not cost me DOP250!! (PALIC is my insurer)

Yeah but you can actually get rid of HIV if you take PEP up to 72 hours after a possible exposure. https://aids.gov/hiv-aids-basics/prevention/reduce-your-risk/post-exposure-prophylaxis/

And as far as testing HIV RNA tests can be taken up to 2 weeks after a possible exposure http://www.aidsmap.com/HIV-RNA-tests/page/1323288/ RNA tests have an accuracy rate of 98%

I have my blood tested regularly just to see if there are problems with my health and as part of the routine test is the HIV test which takes a day longer. Any lab can do it . I get a note from my doctor requesting it because they have to read all the figures for me .
