[h=3]Electricity companies told to improve[/h] Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday 29 January, the executive vice president of the Public Electricity Companies (CDEEE) said that he was seeking a solution to the blackouts and called on the distributors to collect the payments for electricity and the generators to work more economically, efficiently and safely.

Ruben Jimenez Bichara said that he is looking for a comprehensive solution in the shortest time possible and asked the distributors, EdeSur, EdeEste and EdeNorte, to concentrate on reducing their losses and improving coverage.

He deplored the large number of people with illegal connections to the system without a contract, and users who had a contract but did not pay. He said that the distributors were still having losses of 38 to 40%, which was very high and only 4 to 6 percentage points lower than in 2004.
