From DR1 News yesterday - anyone think this will actually deter any of the people currently stealing electric??

[h=3]Man convicted of stealing electricity[/h]The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) has ratified all parts of the sentence against Eddy Soriano Rojas, who was accused of stealing electricity from the Edesur utility company.

The Assistant Attorney General for the Electricity System (PGASE) Moises Ferrer said that Soriano was convicted under the General Electricity Law to pay RD$593,951 for making illegal connections to the grid.

The SCJ judges, Miriam German Brito, Esther Angelan Casanova, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, Frank Soto and Hiroito Reyes, agreed with the evidence provided and ratified the sentence. Ferrer added that Soriano Rojas also had to pay ten minimum salaries as compensation to the Dominican State as well as legal costs.

He said that this was the first conviction ratified by the Supreme Court but assured that there were more similar cases in the pipeline.

They could keep crews busy clipping bootleg lines all over the country, but sooner or later they'd start a riot:
