Can anyone please give me a rough idea, more or less, of what interest rates banks are paying for savings accounts or C.D.'s? Thank you.

How much and for what time period? For 50000 dollars Banco Santa Cruz is currently paying about 2.55 % for a 12 month CD. Banco de Reservas pays a little more, up to 3.6% or so for a 2yr investment. But all in all rates are so low they don t even compensate the risk + inflation...

Wow, you answered my question. That's bad news. I wasn't talking 50k, and these rates seem very low, and the time periods long.

Actually, I think the D.R. banks are more secure and stable than the U.S. banks. Has something to do with the D.R. government guarantees, etc. Not sure where I saw a report on the stability of banks worldwide, but the D.R. was rated above the U.S.

My Spanish is decent, but not good enough to navigate and find the rates. Have only used my vocabulary to talk to people.
