Barcelona football academy opens in Santo Domingo

Barcelona Football Club (FC Barcelona) has announced it is opening an FCBEscola Santo Domingo to teach Dominican boys and girls to play football. The academy will be implementing teaching methods that have been successful with FC Barcelona. The activities will start with the FCB Barca summer camp. Regular training is scheduled to start in September. The classes will be open to boys and girls between the ages 6 to 17.

At a press conference, spokespersons for FC Barcelona said the start of the school marks the start of a new era for the practice of football in the country.

The school is located in the Herrera Industrial Zone, near the Santo Domingo Country Club. Aleix Gibert, director of the Santo Domingo facility, says it will open with 250-300 children training at the school's two artificial grass playing fields.

Club spokesperson Fabeka Lebron said, "The fact that the FCB football school has eyed the Dominican Republic is a message that our country has international potential in football." She highlighted the fact that this is one of the few countries in Latin America that will have a professional field operated by the school. Anyone interested in enrolling can register online at Escuela Oficial del FC Barcelona – Santo Domingo
