From DR1 news:

11. Major drug haul at Punta Cana airport
At least 35 people have been arrested at Punta Cana International Airport where between 670 and 680 kilos of cocaine were discovered inside 28 suitcases yesterday, Wednesday 20 March. Those arrested include senior and junior officers of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the National Investigations Department (DNI), the Specialist Airport Security Corps (CESA) and the Customs Department.

According to information obtained by Listin Diario, almost everyone involved in the security detail at the airport has been arrested and the DNCD will hold a press conference later today, Thursday 21 March, to provide more details on the case.

Listin Diario says that the drugs were found on an executive jet that was due to leave for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, whereas Hoy newspaper says that the plane was heading for the Portuguese-owned Azores, and had three French pilots and other French passengers. El Caribe also says the plane was due to fly to the Azores, and that four French pilots are under arrest, and they were discovered following a surveillance operation carried out by the DNCD, CESA and other security forces. An army captain, Bolivar Mercado Diaz and an Air Force colonel, Jose Brazoban were mentioned by the DNCD.

The director of Customs has denied that any of his staff are under arrest.

So DNCD arrested DNCD and the rest.... So, who is left there now checking for drugs? Doesn't really matter, or?

One wonders that there is anybody left to do arrests at all...

Yet another result of the failed war on drugs. Hire more people and it will just happen again.

Ask those guys if it has been a "Failure"!!!
Not to mention all the "Politicos" that it put/kept in office!

Correct on the money being made in this war. It is huge money.

Why? Because I see the same failed results, over and over and over again.

And because some day, people will understand that the war on drugs was, is and always will be world without end, amen a complete failure and they might have a "paradigm shift". Some states in the US have taken small steps toward the goal of stopping this failed war that can never be won.

1. No wonder they never pay attention to me or my luggage. They've had bigger fish to fry.

2. Explains some of the nice cars in the employee parking lot.

It's about time this so called war on drugs was put on the back burner of concern. It was never ever going to be a successful 'war'. You can't expect to stop something that makes so many people happy. The selling point of continuing this 'war' on drugs is the plight of addicts, and they beef it up by trying to justify continuing by then saying crime is caused by drug addicts, which it really isn't to any great extent, but it sounds good in an argument.
Acceptance that people will always want escapism and not everyone wants to jump out of a plane, or swim with great white sharks, some people need more and so you shouldn't try to stop that, because you can't. There will forever be a demand, always, end of story.
If you bring up your kids well then you can relax in the knowledge that they probably will experiment with drugs, but they will be able to draw a line as they will have alternative escapism and other highs to explore. If they pumped the money into somehow improving children's up bringings, that they pump into this 'war' then over a few generations the numbers who were desperate for that extra high would drop naturally, quantities required would drop considerably, so production would reduce significantly and in turn trafficking would reduce to an accepted level. I say accepted level because you will always have people indulging, it is part of life, people, culture and very natural.

This is an on-going problem in the DR and other 3rd world countries. This is not surprising. They all see tourists coming and going. They all think these people are all wealthy and they want to be also. They are getting paid squat and figure they have very little to lose. So they take a risk. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. This sounds like the plot for a made for TV movie.

If you're talking pot, well...ok, I guess some would agree. But if you're talking about cocaine helping people to be happy, I don't think so. Nothing but misery for the recipients, the families, the neighborhoods, the country.

i'd like to see all drugs legalized. that is the only thing that will end this "war". but i would also like to see random blood tests for drugs in all work places. one positive test with warning and the second positive gtfo. in other words: take it at your own responsibility. both heroine and cocaine used to be legal...

I see they have sold you the package deal also. No I wasn't talking about pot either. The number of people casually using drugs every day dwarfs the number of reliant addicts lying around with needles hanging out their arms, desperate and suffering the dark side of drugs. There are communities where it appears drugs is the local currency, it is sad, but insignificant, they do not matter as there are millions of a generation and past generations who quite happily can take it or leave it, but decide to take it, and will create enough demand, always.
These communities you speak about devastation do not create as much demand, most poor, run down through drug infested neighborhoods dish out extremely low quality gear and so are not purchasing as much base gear as you might think. You can't give rat poison or oven cleaner to intelligent casual users, they do not need to accept it and so by far the core supply chain pushes more in this direction, and so in turn are responsible for the production of more gear and so more money through the producers fingers to motivate the cause.
Yes families are destroyed, neighborhoods infested and individuals lives destroyed through drugs, but they are insignificant, as there are so many people being happy, content and paying top dollar for half decent stuff that the war is nonsense, it matters not how many people are suffering, the happy people create more demand and more money, simple.
As for the country living in misery because of drugs? Well no, like I say, it sounds great in an argument, but in reality is a cheap excuse for a fault in society.
As I said, the intelligent war on drugs would not be attacking supply at all, that is a war they can never win, to fight an intelligent war they would start at the other end, the user, the demand, reduce that and changes will naturally occur, but if the demand is always there then the supplies will always be met.
People, communities do not matter, it is just a business, think with a business mind and treat it exactly the same, results will follow if these business minds are genuine and not corrupted by the money involved.
