From today's Sosua News:

[h=5]Sunday March 24th, six o'clock in the afternoon. The carnival parade started two hours late through the streets of Montellano. It should have started at four o'clock! The starting point was the discotheque La Brisa. The tour then went through the main street to the end point: the park Triangulo. At the head of the procession rode a carriage with the queen of the carnival with beside her King Momo. When they arrived on stage at the park Triangulo they had to hand over their crown to the new queen and king. The carnival parade was more extensive than previous years because there participated delegations from Puerto Plata, La Vega, Cabarete and Sabenete. Participants played many hilarious scenes, which the public immediately recognized and greeted them enthusiastically. We saw 'the savage Indians', the 'St. Peter', the 'Saint John' the 'lucky Tropical', the 'funeral Tite', the 'children of Impacto', 'dancing donkey' and the voodoo dance of Haitians.[/h] [h=5][/h] [h=5][/h] [h=5]But also a parody of the merengue tipico queen Fefita la Grande. Every inhabitant of Montellano know what's the story behind these plays. The artists were greeted with applause. Especially the play of five gay was very amusing and received a big applause. The way the audience acted, it is getting clear that gay people are more and more accepted in the Dominican Republic. The tour ended at the podium of the park Triangulo where each group did a show for the enthusiastic audience and the jury. The 'funeral Tite' garnered the most applause and earned first prize. The performance of the five gay earned second prize. Then the air force orchestra played besides some marches, many merengue. The carnival continued with music and dancing in the park without any discord until late at night.
