Traditionally, my family always makes a leg of lamb for Easter dinner, and it's something I miss when we're in DR for Semana Santa.

We had a electrician here doing some work, and he heard me saying I wish there was someplace to buy a leg of lamb to cook for Easter.

This morning at 7.15 there was a guy out at our gate yelling to come in [we have a rottie here and he was afraid to enter], my husband went out, and the guy handed him a bag with TWO legs of lamb in it, freshly butchered. Only in the Dominican Republic.

Of course, we don't know who the guy was or what that's going to cost us, we'll find out later when the electrician gets here to finish his job :)

One is already seasoned and ready to be roasted tomorrow. The other is cleaned and frozen, coming with us to visit a DR1 friend next weekend.

How fortunate you are! I used to make grilled lamb chops for Easter in the states.Lamb has a" gamey smell" so it needs strong flavors to remove the unpleasant smell.A marinade of rosemary, thyme, garlic cloves, wine, lemon, extra virgin olive oil does the trick.Have a Happy Easter AE! Enjoy your lamb dinner with your family.;)

Nice, I like. Fresh leg of lamb is not in te least gamey, a little mint sauce to serve goes ideally with a welsh leg of lamb.

Thought you might be amused to learn that when, after posting on this thread, I went to the shops to buy a leg of lamb. I couldn't find one not even from New Zealand but I did see a rather nice looking leg of goat. We haven't cooked it yet but watch this space! It will be a new culinary experience for us.

granca, like you I searched everywhere without luck, which is why I got so excited when 2 of them showed up at the gate

Sometimes small things make me happy.

I seasoned the leg the day before, put it in a Reynolds roasting/cooking bag, popped in the oven for 2 hours, and it was 'falling off the bone' delicious.

Price wasn't terrible either, 160RD per pound.
