I'd like to get a data plan for my iPhone but am soured by my experiences with Claro. I see that Tricom has 4G LTE and according to their coverage map, my location (Los Corales / El Cortecito) is covered.

Anyone have experience with Tricom's mobile phone and data network? Specifically their 4G/LTE offering?

4G/LTE?
As I type this. Yes my Claro phone says 4G. Speed? it says 3.5mb down/1.4mb up and I am standing next to the cell tower. I would like to know the actual speed on so called 4G.

I know this doesn't help you or answer your question, but I used Orange Dominicana prepaid. I was getting a consistent 3.5 Mbps down/1.2 Mbps up in Ensanche Piantini. This is for 3G service. Your iPhone would need to have a 900 MHz HSPA radio.

Tricom uses LTE Release 8 1900 MHz band using Huawei equipment. Yes, it's true LTE.

100/50?!?!??!?!?!?
I would be ecstatic if I can get consistent 1Mb not spotty 3MB. If in car I have trouble receiving and download email pdf attachments In Santiago. If they can fix that I will be more then happy to upgrade mine to 3GB per month.

I have the 25GB package LTE Tricom, but it's the MIFI dongle, not a phone, I get anything between 11Mbps-48Mbps. I'm in Villa Marina, near Los Rios.

Nice bandwidth speeds. I finally went to the Tricom office to inquire and discovered that they use CDMA. Useless for my GSM iPhone. :(

Hello all,
my first post! yaay!

well.. I've been using Tricom LTE, and when it works, it's AMAZING. It's fast. It's great.

only *when* it works.

I have the PRE-PAID plan, which i go through 2-3 times a month. the problem is that every time I finish my plan, good luck to get it to work again.

I pay. I call. I even go all the way to the main center in SD (i'm in Punta Cana) and with no luck.

the only option I have is to keep calling them every day until "some monkey answers and presses the right button by mistake" .. it's very frustrating...

When I was in the SD main office, and they wouldn't get the device to work and I started to complain, they had security escort me out.

I mean... really? I'm a paying customer, who's been very patient and polite for now 2-weeks trying to get my account to work again .. but..

so .. as much as I love the LTE when it works - Tricom sucks big time. Their staff is not trained properly about their own services ...

anyone having similar experience and/or advice?

please help!

Isn't the Tricom LTE / 4G the same as the Orange, in this sense that it's not for mobile use. If it works in the neighborhood where you live or work, you set it up there, but when you leave the spot, gone is your 4g?

100 Mbits up/50 Mbits down

A true 4G protocol is designed for max speed of 1gb per second.

Most services dont even get close to that, despite they use a true 4G protocol. It is up to the ISP infrastructure capabilites.

There are only 2 true 4G protocols, LTE and WIMAX, the later is an open protocol designed by IEEE.

Nothing free gets too far, a company related to [or woned by ATT] 'produced' LTE.

How much do you pay?

25gb should be enough for me.... when I get to DR.

I pay RD$1200/10GB. I get good speed. something like 6-10MBps. but whenever the 10GB finishes, it's a VERY painful process to refill it.

looks like no one else have this service or issue?

Tricom as a horible customer service, and they are pure LADRONES!!!

I had a 4G lte usb connection, they tell me it will work in my zone... I buy it, get it for 2-3 months and its not working half the time (bad signal) and cant get better then 3g... So i go there to cancel it, guess what? They dont refund you for the key that you paid at 5500rd AND you have to give them the key back! Haha so standard...

Also when before i moved to a new house 6 months ago i had all my service with Tricom... So i go there to make the switch to my new adress, no problem you just have to pay your next bill in advance and we will make the transfer... Few days later, oh sorry doesnt work in your new sector, we will let you cancel your contract for free, but you cant recuperate the bill that you already paid.

Yup, adios tricom never again.

they are so stupid.

phone support says i must go to SD to look at the device (i'm in PC). When i do go to SD, they say they fixed it (which I know they didn't do jack) and that I must wait till past midnight and restart the device (someone is influenced by some Disney movies!)

even when I do that, still does not work.

I Call support again... guess what? they tell me to go to SD again.

it's total BS.
