Can someone give me a ball park figure on the cost to ship a small 6000 watt generator to Santiago? The weight is about 80 pounds and can fit in a 36 inch x 36 inch x 24 inch crate or box. The value is $250.00. It is a used item. My friend, who lives in Santiago, needs a generator and the cost for a new one is very expensive in the DR. I just need a rough idea on the shipping cost. Thanks

For that you would need to get a quote from a Dominican Door to Door shipper such as Montero or EncargoPaq.
I shipped a much heavier generator (well over 300 pounds) and the price was 12,000 $RD for the shipping door to door all in.
I would guess your shipping cost to less than 1/3rd of what I paid.

Where do you live Greg81? If it's NY/NJ/PA/RI/MA/FL we can give you the names of shippers that deliver right to the door in DR.

according to the quoting engine on EPS website the cost for 80 lbs is RD$11,288.00 about US$282.00.

I find the quote engine to be pretty much in the ball in the past.

EPS would not be a good way to import that type of item. The Door to Door shippers are much more economical.

JD is right.... but it's a used one , so the value they will assign is hard to predict....

The $250 means nanda... but put it in there anywayand hope for the best.

If you use a mudanza, the price will include duty... no surprises... get a quote

They'll want to see it.
I have NEVER had a surcharge

Absolute luck of the draw. I know all kinds of folks that have brought stuff in and were not charged duty at all. Miracles do happen..

That is why you get a door to door price quote from a mover. They give you the price and stick to that price.

JDJ,
no luck involved ........ the mudanza (door to door) is an all inclusive price that will stick.

That's why I say I have NEVER had a surprise.

Why people question this, I don't understand.

I spoke with a 20+yr RD veteran this week who had no clue this type of transaction - shipping in via mudanza - was possible.

Hey
We're in Mass looking to ship our stuff out toward the end of the month. Would you mind sending me any info you have on companies to use. We could work with port to port or door to port.

We use Embarque Bella Vista out of the Bronx, but they have an office in Providence RI that would serve you, the phone is in RI (401) 272-0054<dd class="tel" itemprop="telephone" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 12px; background-color: transparent; display: inline; line-height: 18px;">
They do door-to-door service everywhere in DR, never a problem in decades using them.

The value is not what you say it is, it is what DR Customs says it is. I don't think you'll convince them that it's only worth 250 bucks, considering that new ones go for 1000 and up.

Another option is to take the machine apart into a few parts...not even that many parts...and send it for the same value ($250) as "parts". The customs people view it very differently in that respect.

we use a Haitian company, chatalain shipping. very reasonable and fast. plus you pay after it arrives not before its shipped. Very dependable. We are a company here in Puerto Plata and ship large industrial equipment. they can handle a generator. We shipped a small valve grinder about 175 pounds for $225.00 from Miami. that included palletizing by them and shipping. it was there in 2 days. (generator is about the same size) this is to your door.
