And those picture were the one day each year that they clean the beaches!

"Waste Management" in the DR, means having the trash/garbage you throw out the car/bus window, landing along side the road, not in it!

I drop my trash on the floor of my car and once a week or so clean it up, but there are any number of Dominicans who when getting in my car start to throw things out the window even right in front of their own house.

i got through eating a bag of potato chips once, and saw no garbage receptacle nearby. so, i crumpled it, and stuffed it in my pocket. people roared with laughter. they thought it was alzheimers.

Sadly there are many beaches all over the DR that are garbage pits. Try walking accross the footbrige in Samana Bay. Between the islands connected by the bridge are pits of garbage. I could not believe that this icon could be left in such a state. I have said this many times. Build a few garbage burning steam plants and pay people to bring garbage to these plants. People will scramble to find and pick up garbage anywhere it exits. Give them an incentive to clean it up.

Great Idea!
This would definitely work in some countries but would this actually work in DR?

This system probably put more money in the pocket for head of Sanitary then other. Who would stop those wouldn't mind invoicing government they have burnt $300k worth of extra garbage for this week? This idea have potential to put more money for the head-honchos.

It is their country and that is how they choose to live. I have no right to complain about it. I respect them and their culture. If I have a problem, I should go back the USA and not complain about it because I do not want to be rude.

It is my earth and I have right to say something if they are keep on poisoning part of my earth and it's people. If you have problem, you should perhaps find a nice place to live on moon and keep on dumping your garbage in space. I just don't want to see my world get destroyed and not give my child and his child and so on a chance to live in a healthy environment.

Well not all Dominicans throw their trash out the window. Their are many that would never dream of throwing trash out like this. .Most countires you will see people throwing out things on the road. Maybe not so much in Europe I remember when we were young in a drive in, some idiots dumped there trays and drive off. It infuriated my dad so much I was like 8 and he told me he would beat my ass if i ever did that and started yelling at me. jajajajaja. Mami was yelling at him to stop yelling at me and my sister was just crying... I never threw anything out the window after that.....

I do not think his intent is to be rude. it just that so many people from other countries move from their home and then want the new country to be like the place they left. We see it all the time. Thats why they hang out in the same areas with people of their own country or use businesses started by people from their same country. I lived in St croix and worked at Hess. Most of the amercan always went to Cheese Burgers and Paradise and places like that. Very rarely would go to the local owners places to eat etc. So they never benefited You see that to some extent like that here. Not as much however . DOn't get me wrong i am not accusing anyone so don't take it personal. I like the old saying "when in rome" etc. Many time just being an example is a good thing and people notice. People are like kids just bigger. i like it here, its not perfect and we know. Maybe organize a DR1 beach cleanup. people will see that. They do the beach cleanups in the USA.
Many corp sponsor it. They started small and it has grown all along the coast and they have them on the same weekends

Wasn't there some angry gay guy here who tried doing a "garbage clean up" thingy on the North Coast several years ago? I think he got banned for something...

We aren't talking about building Manhattan or eat only Big Mac here. The poster suggest to look away while they keep dumping garbage. We don't want DR=US. We want cleaner and healthier DR for all locals, gringos and koreanos alike.

If you and dominicans wants to keep ignoring DR problems.

Fine!

Continue as you wish. It isn't our problems, DR is perfect as is.

RIGHT?!?
