Just returned from Playero where I bought what they are calling Melon Piel de Zapo. Looking it up on Google I found it really is Piel de Sapo. Also called:Camouflage Melon, Frog Skin Melon, Santa Claus Melon, Christmas Melon
In any case, I had not seen them before nor heard of them. Most were green, ranging from dark to light, but checking with one of the stock boys he said the more yellow they are the better. Google confirms that. Diogging down through the large pile, I found one that is much more yellow than green.
Google also says they continue to ripen after harvest, so if you get one that is dark green, you can hold it until it ripens more.
I am always pleased when I find a fruit to try that I had not heard of before.
According to Google, "Piel de Sapo melons have a super-sweet melon flavor with a juicy, honedew-like essence."
I'll try it tonight.
