Has anyone ever been to a cockfight in the DR? What is the opinion of average Dominicans about this sport and are there tourist-friendly arenas?
Yes, it's cruel and horrible. Now go eat your factory-farmed chicken wings..
I don't know about fighting, but I know my cock
is bigger than yours...and that's all that matters

and how do you know that i'm not vegetarian ;-) ?
Yes i have been several times. My wifes family are alittle involved in cockfighting.
I rarely see other much other Gringos there.
I am not sure if i will recommend a visit without some local assistance. Maybe some other can aid you in answering this part.
Eating a fighting bird is like trying to digest the contents of a pharmacy in grandads old carpet slipper!
The true recipe for coq au vin is made with a fighting rooster who died.. I saw that on an episode of good eats and thought it was kinda funny.. I guess it can only be eaten when braised for hours since it's so damn tough.

We eat pheasant all the time during hunting season and those birds are wild as hell. Still taste great...with enough cooking. The fighting cocks can't be too much different.
