...after a long search I found a school in Higuey that offers "VIP" service for 6500 DOP.

I know some others were looking for information too, don't recall who though. I will post a recommendation (or not lol) after my experience with them.

Can somebody please recapitulate what I have to look for all is legal?

I need to pay in BR and bring the receive and a "papel de buena conducta".

What I have to keep an eye on what the school has to do so that I know he isn't just selling me a non registered copy?

Should I accompany them to the government office?

Can't find the thread where this was explained anymore...

dv8 is correct - if they say they'll be back with a licence, it'll be fake.

You should be escorted for the test and photo and fingerprinting.
For 6500, make him do the work at Ban Reservas

Is there a licence bureau in Bavaro - must be.

This is better than however many hours to POP

They told us they (not the school, the government office staff) come to Higuey periodically for licensing and he will call us when they are there the next time. We were told we just missed the date when they were in town. So seems they work the right way...

We were not told to bring the receive (I recalled the necessity from the other thread so I supposed I have to bring it...) from BR so I guess this might be included in the 6500... which I will clarify before heading to the appointment.

I think he chimed in on the POP plan.... he's in that thread asking for info.

There probably is another - its a hot topic and one that should attract attention.
The RD licence is important.

In the PN bashing thread - just imagine what they'd put you through on a foreign licence if you have a problem

This is absolutely correct. They come and set up a trailer and some desks opposite it. I would not worry too much, as what they told you is standard procedure. They will go to the bank and you will go to where the trailer is. As long as he takes you to get a photo at the end of it at the trailer you will get a legit license.

I renewed my license once there and it is legal.
