Pain Meds

I asked this question somewhere but forget where?

My wife had a major moto accident in Canada and had to take pain meds like morphibe, codiene etc that she did not like b/cof the side effects so instead legally had pot oil, didn't smoke it drank it. Anyways I know any pot liquid is out of the question here.
Her pain is much better here but when the weather changes she still can have severe pain.
What is the best way to get strong pain meds. Oxe Forte barely helps her pain. Are there special pain Dr's to go to or special Pharmacies? All the pharmacies i have gone to for her all they say is oxe forte codeine. This barely touches her pain.
She does not need a lot and barely uses it, maybe once a month here or even less.

Thanks for any help. :D

Was there not a recent thread about the decriminalization of marijuana (small amounts)?

Someone who is not me who use to make regular flights to DR in private plane brought Vicodin for three different Doctors he knew because they couldn't get any for their own patients

I know opiates are highly restricted in DR, in fact I don't know if anything stronger than Codeine is even available

Met a guy who had fallen on coral and messed up his hand bad, Doctor in DR did great microsurgery to repair nerves, tendons etc. Used local for procedure and aspirin for post op pain , damm :alien:

Take your wife to a good internist, and explain her situation.
Advice here on DR1,is anecdotal at best, and wrong at worst.
I mean, would you ask chip where to buy birth control pills, condoms, "Morning After" pill???

harley, as i posted on another thread, your options in DR are quite different than in canada. you will find there is lots of strong medicine sold over the counter:
pregabalina,
gabapentin.
tramadol
tramadol+acetaminophen

there are also other meds, not immediately associated with pain that seem to have this effect, one of them is topiramate (originally developed to treat convulsions, now also for treatment of migraines, obesity and neuropathic pain).
there is also amitriptiline, originally antidepressant, now also used in pain management (firbromylagia, neurological pain, migraines).

all above are available over the counter.

now, strong pain meds with prescription... dominicans believe that people who take prescription meds are lousy drug addicts. so much that even if you contact the pharmacy selling them they often refuse any information. furthermore, the special prescription can only be issued by a corresponding specialist, and only a small bunch of doctors here are allowed to write those prescriptions...

my suggestion is to visit POP and see doctor mejia in clinica brugal. he is an internista-cardilogo. speaks english (also french and german). he will be able to suggest medicine that is available in DR and will be best for this case. he will probably point some OTC meds first, before going for a broke with stronger, controlled stuff.

in any case, good luck. remember to read the label before trying OTC stuff: adverse effects, interactions and so on.

In Canada I worked with a lot of drugs, Gabapentin, tramadol are not strong meds for her type of pain. Also worked with all mental illness meds, amitriptiline , won't help either. From my job I know a lot about meds . I was just wondering what her options are here.
We will go to a specialist. She doesn't like taking them anyways was just wondering. Takes them as last resort.
Wll take her to a good internist.

The pot plant question, I have no idea how many plants she would need she would get it from a legal pot pharmacy store in Vancouver and cook it and the smell made me want to puke so i didn't ask or wasn't interested in it. I'm not into doing anything illegal with drugs here.

wow that is hard core!!!! Very interesting about opiates not being allowed here. I think codeine probably is the only easy type pain med to get here.
I fell off a ladder 3 weeks ago and have been taking it on and off but i wouldn't say it was for strong pain. The guy at the pharmacy said THIS IS VERY STRONG... umm not so much but helped a bit.

They debrided my leg that had a gangrenous infection, leaving an open wound that was full thickness - down to the bone - and a good eight inches across and four inches wide in the ER, without anesthesia when I was ill here in Puerto Plata. Nothing was given for pain afterwards, either.

When I was admitted to the hospital in the US, they prescribed Dilaudid!

ETA: I have some Lortabs for times when the leg is really bad, even now that it is healed it still hurts at times, but mostly manage with Tramadol and an anti-inflammatory. Since I can't be here in the summer because the heat makes my leg swell so much, I always bring some back with me.

I think you've been given bad info or misinterpreted a discussion re:legalized marijuana... I don't believe there's been more than talk of it.

pain management in DR is very strange indeed. the only time i actually received proper pain meds was before my surgery... i was only supposed to get epidural but i had a mega headache because i did not eat for 24 hrs. my anesthesiologist politely injected me with some morphine derivative. first a small dose and after i said i was going to puke because of the pain she squeezed in the rest. gosh, such a bliss...

in any case, to dominicanos all pain medicine from the pharmacy is strong. i laugh at it. i can pop several pills in one go when i have a migraine... i never take one pill of anything... :) having said that, 2 pregabaline with amitriptiline, dramamine and few ibuprofen and i feel much better :)

As i answered you in the other thread Sir, i will give it another go here:
I highly recommend she travel back to her doctor and try out Metadone hydrochloride. This is the best pain managment pills that exist out there. I can assure you they do not sell this pills here on the Island. They sell it in the US, i just checked it.

I have severe injuries in my body and especial back and a foot after a "alittle" wild and aggresive way of living. Codeine and other pills are like acteaminophen on my packpains, they do not work. I tried every pill that has been made, and only one type of legal pill works: Methadone hydrochloride.

I hope she talk to her doctor about this, and she goes back to the us for bringing back a years supply of pills. This is the best option. The doctor and others will tell you what papers she need for bringing so much pills with her.

Now it is important she understand the Metadone doseage used in pain management is way lower than when the same drug is used for other threatments. So in other words she will not feel any buzz when she and her doctor finds out where the pain limit are in her back.
The drug is so potent is actually removes the pain, and when a limit is reached, she does not have to increase the pill use over time as she has to do when using Codeine based medecine.

I hope you understand what i am writing here, english is not my language.

Dominicans use "Brugal", and "Presidente" for pain relief.
Both physiologic & phsycological .
It has the advantage of being "OTC".
It's approved for children and geriatric patients!
Taste great as well.
