Instead of safeguarding tourists, most Politure officers are concerned in harassing the hookers and taking their money. <O:p</O:p
Vladimir is correct. If prostitution is eradicated from Sosua and Cabarete, many businesses would close.
It would collapse their local economy. Most gringos go to the DR for putas and drugs. That is not a secret. Also, Willie, e Chamo, would be back on the streets, shanning shoes like he did back in the day before he became Armando’s bitch and washed money.

I don't go to the DR for this, and haven't for many trips over 25 years. Why do you think this is all the country has to offer?

You can go to MacDonalds and get a salad; on what foods do you think most of their revenue is made. To ignore the obvious is just being, well you choose the adjective. Education substandard, health care substandard, wages substandard, transportation substandard.....need I go on.

For women who have children to support prostitution is the only way they can feed the children made with worthless men. Look at any European country and their population is on the decline; there are just not enough children being born to support the aging population. In DR, women want to have children, early in life. This is a treasure, because with careful planning, diverting funds to education, the Dominicans will always have a young workforce to take care of the old.

No aid should be given to the DR by America unless there are tangible measures that will ensure a minimum quality of life there. All it would take would be for an American Senator or House repesentative to visit DR and insist on taking a slum tour, not the tour arranged by the government. Things would change in a hurry.

Dominicans who have move from the country to America and other foreign lands, should demand a better life for the people left behind; until then little will change to improve the quality of life. I am sure there are few women who want old, fat, bald, unattractive men sliding between their thighs in numbers. Until there is a change in the availability of jobs, education, condom use and forced support for children fathered, leave the sex workers alone. Many of those women maybe prostitutes but they are certainly not HOs!

I agree with you all the way!.. I seriously don't think these women want this type of life ( kids to feed) one of the reason they commit to this.

Just curious, what does any woman think is going to happen when they have sex and they're well aware that their partner isn't using protection.
Common sense goes a long way........when used......

Provide the proof

ElAlien you are so knowledgable about gringos ! Provide the proof for your statement with facts from recognized, reputable, and well known sources.

You have insulted tourists, members of the forum, Dominicanos, and PJT with your comment.

DR1 is set up to allow a free flow of information of and about the DR and have fun doing it. Yet, there are limits as what can be posted so no one or one group are injured. The officers of DR1 are well aware of their responsibility and do a great job of monitoring content as they are the ones who will take the heat if someone has a mind to litigate. ElAlien you have overstepped the limits.

ElAlien do the decent thing and apologize to those you have insulted.

PJT is holding his Regards on this one.

:p:alien:

I'll bet you would be surprised how many gringos come here absolutely unaware of the woman situation. As for drugs, don't be silly, if that was the case then the prisons would be full of gringos (and they are not). Are you by any chance judging everyone else by your own desires and standards?

I will accept most gringos possibly go to Sosua for putas, but Sosua is not the DR.

The amount of the total DR economy provided by prostitution is insignificant as far as the government is concerned.

To listen to PICHARDO, the amount of the DR economy provided by tourism is insignificant.

The reality is, this booming economy is based on a few things;
Hard working, never late, highly educated, very attentive, reliable, honest workers....

The state of the art grand malls are built to supply luxuries for these workers to spend their surplus income....

There is no need for tourism and mining and drug trade. They are all insignificant!!!

Correct. This work ethic and attention to detail was handed down by conscientious and involved fathers, far-sighted and willing to curb their drinking and womanizing for the sake of their offspring.

This is a paradox...prostitutes need to eat and feed their kids. Often, their money goes to more then just feeding their children--it often goes to helping their parents out as well. Their is no easy answer here. The DR has no infrastructure to help and financially supoort women. You why you never see Norwegian prostitutes? Because their is infrastructure here...women get help and financial support from the government if the man is unable to. Women here get a monthly stipend for the first few years of the babies life to help pay for diapers, clothes, and added expenses. They get full paid while their off work for the first year. They get help with daycare as well.

Now contrast this with third world countries where women are left to defend for themselves...in the DR, women get no financial help, prenatal care, or medication or financial support. Women are left on their own here, and so are their babies. If Norway had the same system as the DR, I could look out the window right now and see dozens of Scandinavian prostitutes. Instead, all I see here are African and East Bloc prostitutes--themselves a product of terrible infrastructure governments who offer no support or infrastructure for their women or their babies.

The problem and the blame for prostitution, in my opinion, is not the women--the women are the victims of poor government--its the lack of infrastructure and government policies. If third world countries were more like scandinavian countries, you would not have the problem that you see now.

Instead of blaming women for their lack of resources and opportunities, blame the government. The women are the victims of a gross lack of social and financial support. And this tired argument about women need to learn to keep their legs closed is not the answer. Look at other third world countries where religion has an immense power and influence over their populations--I.e--pakistan, nigeria, afghanistan, Middle East, India, etc.--they have huge families with children unable eat properly, suffering malnutition, and going hungry.

So the problem is not that women are just spreading their legs and are behaving badly, the problem is that our instincts for hundreds of thousands of years is to breed and procreate. Its in our genes, its in our blood, and its in our fiber and instincts. Humans will never stop breeding and having sex. All you can do is offer women the infrastructure and financial support, and the opportunity and choices to manage the size of their families. And of course, this ignoring completely the responsibilties that men have as well. But the choices and support should be with the women first and foremost. Focus on that and education, and everything else will fall in place just like it has here in Scandinavia and northern Europe.

Some Dominicans live in this rose colored world where their country is this beautiful enchanted island that is just perfect (easy to do when you can eat steak and lobster everyday).

These idiots have no understanding of what this country really is.... a poor island with more problems than most countries. They dont understand that this banana republic is only still standing (more like propped up) because of the massive loans that are constantly taken out on the sweat of poor dominicans.

They dont see the trash in the streets, they dont see la pobreza... these richs f-cks are driven around in their Mercs S class with chofers and eat at their cream of crop restaurants...

these are the same idiots that have banned prostitution.
these are the same idiots that give us the highest electricity rate in the hemisphere (what? the poor dont need A/C...)
these are the same idiots that charge us inflated import taxes on our TVs, stoves, and neveras. (they can afford dominican store prices.)
these are the same idiots that think that a garbage pickup service should be done in the dark of night.
these are the same idiots that gives themselves BILLIONS in pesos just so they can put another rich thief in office to steal even more of the poor dominicans money.

This country has one fix....a dead politco had the right idea.... quemar el pais desde la cuatros esquinas! No hay otro remedio....

Damn, I guess shouldve had breakfast before posting....

Bob,

Good article. We read about this all the time in the newspapers here. Norway only has 4.8 million people. it's a tiny country in terms of population. Again, like i said earlier, there are no Norwegian prostitutes. Never seen one in 21 years here...and i work downtown--right smack in the middle of downtown. So again, this confirms what i said earlier--its the Africans and East Bloc women dominating the prostitution here. But we also have Thai prostitutes--but they prefer to work in the "Massage parlors."

So, why is that nearly all prostitutes in Scandinavia are foreign? Because, like in the DR, they come from countries with no infrastructure, no free prenatal care & no medical help for them or their children, no financial support for women, and no financial support for their children.

Anyone here care to elaborate on this? Anyone disagreement with this assessment?

ElAlien is inaccurate, some tourists do come here for the puntang but many more come for the weather and the opportunity to soak up the island culture. Not the sexual tourism JMB enjoys, just the usual sand, sun and mojitos.

Let me qualify a statement i made about "No Norwegian prostitutes." Although i have never seen one, i'm forgetting about drug addicts. I'm sure drug addicts would make an exception to my observations.

Now back to ElAlien. I don't how many people are visiting the DR for the drugs, but i can't imagine its a major problem. The repercussions and consequences are horrendous if your caught, and the marijuana is supposedly of absolutely terrible quality (due to a lack of Hydroponic growing techniques and know how), the cocaine is supposedly cut to shreds and of very poor quality. And i have never heard of Meth here.

On top of this, drugs--even soft drugs remain very taboo among the Dominican culture. I know, i know...college kids and surfers like to smoke pot and get high. i understand this...i work at a beach bar, but among the general population, drugs remain very taboo. It's been that way since i was a kid here, and i cannot see the Dominican culture changing anytime soon, or giving any acceptance to any drugs--no matter how benign they are perceived in the west. Even cigarette smoking is taboo and judged harshly among many Dominicans. I only have one cousin out of 25 who smokes cigarettes...and he catches hell for it all the time. But that's not to say people don't smoke and don't get high. I know they do. But they just don't have the cultural acceptance as they do in western industrial countries.

This may change in the future, but i believe it will take a long time.

Frank

Never knew about the chicas until i lived here and started to really read about it in Dr1. I actually would never have even have noticed until the SD Casino situation. I know lots of other people who vacation here who know nothing about the prostitution situation!
Would never come here for drugs either!
I can only imagine the horrible pot that is sold here and the even worse jails :)
(former heroin, meth, coke addict) 13 years clean!
