News reports are coming that a passenger line bus from APTPRA covering the route Higuey - Santo Domingo had an accident with a truck on Autovia del Coral, at approximately 4.30 pm. There are reports of at least 4 deaths and over 30+ injured. According to reports (which are still coming in) the bus did several rounds after impacting with the truck.

I am seeing some footage from the scene of the accident. Looks like there were some people who flew out of the windows... the scene looks terrible.
According to the reports, the truck's tire exploded, the driver lost control, the truck crossed the median that divides the highway, and then impacted with the passenger bus.

As of now, there are 4 reported deaths. 1 man and 3 women. The male was the driver of the truck. He was traveling with his son, who is in "walking" condition. Out of the 3 women, 2 were dead on scene and one while being transported to the hospital. There is also a report of a small child in critical condition with severe head injuries, this small boy is being airlifted to Santo Domingo.
Witness reports are saying that the truck did not have an exploded tire. According to the witness who was traveling on the bus the truck was trying to cross the highway from one side into another ( on an unofficial + crossing) and did nto see the approaching bus. The exact cause of the accident is not still clear, there are varying reports on the cause.

The small boy that was being airlifted to Santo Domingo by the Dominican Air Force died while being transferred.
When will the names be released.. I have a friend who was traveling from PC to la romana it was either today or tomorrow.. Im not sure if they would or could have been on that bus.. If she was taking different buses.. Cant reach her.. This is a terrible story..

sadly, now that the DR has dedicated so much resources and efforts to improving the highways, it should now try to figure out how to educate the people in the little matter of driving a vehicle.
How sad and devastating for the family! Their grief over the loss must be unbearable.
