There's a new chef, menu and name at the restaurant at Velero Resort. Now the spot with the best view of Cabarete Bay has one of the best restaurants in Cabarete (IMO of course!)
I ate there with 5 friends and we sampled several dishes...all were excellent, good size portions, and very reasonably priced.
Some highlights:
As soon as we were seated, we were given ice water, and it was refilled throughout the meal. It's a small thing that goes a long way with me. The only other place I know that doesn't force you to buy bottled water is Claro Cafe...(and pretty much every colmadon and chicken shack in the Country)
The Special of the day was seared Salmon in a Meniere sauce...large and fantastic...absolutely perfectly cooked.
Tuna steak with a teriyaki glaze...again, very large...and very well prepared (rare).
Shrimp Victor - reminds you of another restaurant's "famous" shrimp...with a great sauce for dipping your bread into...
All the dishes come with two sides...and not just the usual papas fritas, arroz blanco, or platanos...there are more than a half dozen choices...we tried most of them and they were all very good.
The service was excellent!
The view is amazing, especially at Sunset!
They have whole wheat pasta for the bolognese (nice touch).
You get a free shot of Mamajuana after dinner :bunny:
And....the impuestos (10% + 28%) are included in the prices...not so common anymore in Cabarete, especially at the "nicer" restaurants.
In addition to the above they have a good selection of salads, other seafood, steaks, pastas, and desserts! I didn't get a chance to look at them, but they have separate menus for breakfast and lunch as well.
As for the prices, most dishes were between 500-600 pesos, a few less, a few more...but again, that's with the 28% included...
I'll definitely be back...actually probably going there tomorrow for breakfast!
