I remember reading forum guidelines some time ago. I have difficulty navigating this fairly standard bulletin board, so I couldn't find them to refresh my recollection before starting this thread. I recall that in addition to standard netiquette posts need to be focused on Dominican themes. I remember some specific language regarding commercial enterprise, etc. Can someone help remind me of the standards related to discussions of race. It seems that these are closed kind of quickly compared with other threads. It could be a matter of self-selection as I find these posts of personal interest. Other threads seem to linger and sometimes devolve into tirades. Some of the banter among you long time frequent posters can be brutal, but I think the overriding theme on this forum is brutal honesty. Are moderators divvied up and maybe the "race tag" moderator is simply more attentive?

And, on a much more serious topic...is there anyway to avoid all postings on the latest buffet offerings at cualquiere all-inclusive? :)

No race or religion related threads of any kind. These are only allowed in the Off Topic forum and you need 500+ posts to gain access.

If a thread/post contains detailed personal information, slander, personal attack, porn, illegal content, then it will be deleted.

I am not a moderator and every Forum has a moderator and it is within that Mods discretion whether or not to close a thread. Ususally one is not allowed to discuss race or relgion and all threads must be DR related. Except in the offtopic forum which can be accessed by those who have more than 500 posts.

Sometimes a Mod will warn the posters to get back on DR related topic.. other times the thread will just be closed.

Most threads just die a naural dealth.

The recent thread on Hatian genetics went to a discussion of the African Slave trade and was no longer DR?Haiti related and the Mod suggested that another thread be opened in the off topic forums which it was.

I have noted that rince the Off Topic forum has been opened a lot of the postings and discussions are there since it is eeasier.. even when we start off discussing something that might be DR related.. like recently there was a priest accused of sex abuse.. it was just started in off topic. This makes it hard for the newbies.

I find that often there is just pretty boring stuff in the other forums.. so I feel your pain. Hard to get up to 500 posts when there is not much going on.

Thanks Folks. I get it. Sole discretion of the moderator to decide. I have the benefit of getting to know you all by lurking in past threads. I am sure it is thousands of views, although I am not always signed in. It is strange to feel like you know a person through only a bbs. I irc'd back in the early nineties and did the newsgroups sci. alt. thing a generation ago. So, my only option is to post more frequently. Maybe I'll refute the thread on Bachata. Post my favorite youtubes. Or better yet, treat you all to a **** analysis of the trends related to youtube hits on Dembow vs. Reggaeton! If I keep posting at this rate I won't hit Off Topic until i cash my first social security check at the ScotiaBank.

I'll bet the best way to hit 500 is to get in a fight! Alright CCCCCCCCCHRIS CCCCCCCCCOLON! Put up your dukes. I'm gonna knock your block off.

No offense or anything but what did the thread "Crime in the D.R." have to do with race or religion? It could not have been any more D.R. related.
I don't get it.
Closed because it was boring?
Oh well......
Such is life.

Thanks for the info, although it is very disappointing. I was formulating a question that had to do with Dominican culture (I am planning a trip) as compared to another cultural group. I can't see making 500 posts any time soon, and apparently the very nature of my inquiry is banned in other areas. It seems the utility of this forum, for me at least, is already, or very nearly, exhausted.

The 500 post rule is stupid! Who came up with the idea?
Forum bullying in a way. One can post 10 great posts, compared to another persons hundreds of lame posts.
Quantity doesn't assure quality!
The quick closing of threads is also stupid. Flex those muscles mods! Hope it makes you feel "special."

If it was also based on quality, YOU still wouldn't be assured of getting in :)

If you have an issue with the way these forums are run, go find another forum, simple!

If you want to talk about religion or abortion in the main threads (not Off-Topic) you just have to do what Chip does - just hi-jack a thread on almost any other topic!

See, more bullying. I can say the same of your posts.
Maybe deep down you always wanted to be a cop but couldn't get in.
Also, already found another site with almost no bullying.
50% of posts are still worth reading here, so I check in from time to time.

Nope, never wanted to be a cop, just 15 years of running this site.

Well done on the new site, atta boy... bye!

I don't think so...

Chip pretty much keeps his views and rants to the Off Topic forum these days.

Why does it exist?
Just because a person reaches 500 posts, doesn't make their posts superior.
Heck, chip probably has more than 500 on abortion alone and most are tired of it.

maybe because the guy who owns the site says so? is that good enough?

See, more bullying.

Bullying? Are you for real, grow some hair, grab your gonads, bullying? If you don't like them just abuse them but please do not bring this site down to school yard level, faking bullying? Hahahahaha!

If your know the touchy and emotional mods from the tougher skinned ones then you can actually get away with quite a stretch over the rules, if you are at the time talking sense and making a good point!
