Hola,

My stay was unexpectedly extended and I find that i don't have quite enough Klonopin - generic name is Clonazepam - to last. I'm short a few pills until I leave, something I can get by with but would prefer to not have to ration. It's a controlled substance in the US as well as RD. I have the vial my prescription came in. I understand I need to see a doctor to get a prescription here. My question is how much of a hassle would it be to find a doctor willing to write a rx and find a farmacia that sells this sort of thing? If it's gonna take more than a few hours, I'll do without. I'm going home Sunday. I'm presently staying in zona colonial in Santo Domingo.

Thanks

not every doctor has a right to write a prescription for a controlled medicine. most likely you will have to go to a corresponding specialist (psychiatrist). bring the papers from your american doctor. expect to pay up consultation fee anyway. large pharmacies should have controlled meds.

if i were you i would ration or find something OTC. for few pills it's not worth the pain in the a**.

Go look in a few farmacias before you see a doctor- I get over the counter medicine for bi-polar disorder every month and I've never seen a doctor here.

You can get all the bipolar meds except the benzodiazipams over the counter here. So you might try upping your other meds..

Or call Dr Hector Perez at Medical Net 45 Rafeal Augusto Sanchez, Medical Net, Piantini 809 540 9100

psychiatrist trained in NYC ..

surprised to hear that you use benzos, HR with your history. More than three months's use can really lead to a bad addiction. Not to say that they are not great. One little lorazepam makes all the trouble go away.

So, Jook, you might consider this a good opportunity to come off the Clonazepam just to see how hard it is.

There is a reason that it is a control substance.

It is late on a Friday, so don't know if you can get a psychiatrist easily. If your clonazepam is prescribed daily or twice or three times a day, I would avoid going off of it cold turkey - although it has a nice long half life. If it is PRN (as needed) maybe you already know other coping strategies to get you by, for example controlled breathing usually gets rid of a panic attack.

I would try calling the psychiatrist. You probably already know benzo withdrawl is not pretty. I might buy Benadryl, not a generic if possible, as that would easily snow most people over at whaterever dose you have found effective - unless of course you are allergic to it.

If all else fails, you can have the security of mind to know you will have whatever you need when you are home.

Bests, I think you will be alright

god help you if you are getting controlled drugs without correct prescription. no decent pharmacy would risk that. so there is a chance the meds you are getting are fake. no bueno. :(

Really tough to get! You must see a psychiatrist. For about a 1000 pesos you can get a script and get it from the pharmacy. The script has 5 copies, very controlled

If you need meds, the pharmacies send meds with Caribe tours. Even sent me a 1 liters brown glass bottle of pure liquid narcotics so i could make my own painkillers. So if they can get what you need in one way or another, they WILL get it for you.

In their strange exotic way the Dominicans are often extremly helpful and even empatic.

Yes ok, i had to pay.... But i got help......

I have severe social anxiety and use it when needed not all the time. I believe in medication for Mental Illness when nothing else works. I have lots of experience in this field but I do honestly appreciate your point of view and concern :)

Dv8 some of it is not the real stuff but one or 2 brands work exactly the same as the stuff in Canada. It's locked up in a special area.....
