From today's Sosua News:

Thursday, July 18 entrepreneurs, representatives of police together with the Mayor and the Director of Tourism had a meeting in the great hall of the town hall. Major item during this meeting was the noise caused by mopeds and cars with loud music systems. The present commanders of police (AMET, PN and POLITUR) promised the attendees to tackle this problem seriously. But they will also act against noise caused by loud music equipment in certain bars.

I would love to have a reduction in the noise. I hope this gets some legs and happens.

what will they do about vocal noise; people who hold conversations form 30 yards away?

we have heard all of this before. remember the proposed initiative some years ago to prosecute people for "unnecessary noise"?

The other day we had VERY LOUD karaoke still going on at 2 am. My hubby called the police in Sosua and they called the smaller station where we live by. 3 minutes later the music was off. I WAS AMAZED. Hopefully they keep it up.

Wow! A meeting in "the great hall of the town hall", and the police too! Those noisemakers better look out! Come on now. What is more Dominican than loud? Be it music, motos, conversation or just life in general. Domincans love loud and no meeting even in the great hall of the town hall will change the culture.

even silence here is loud. i have some kids on my building that send chills down my spine when they shout and scream, but it does not seem to bother the parents. if those were my kids, they would be on muzzles.

They could do it and succeed in La Romana. They are doing it in other places. Why not in Sosua?

Sosua can, and now that the mayor and tourism director have made it a priority, I am optimistic.

I know it can be done. A few years ago the condo where I live in Sosua was bothered greatly at night by the music from a bar.

It took time and persistence, no money, but we were successful, thanks to the help given us by the Ministry of Tourism after presenting our complaints to them in a meeting in Santo Domigo.

I am living in the outskirt of Sosua in a residential area and i can tell you there is an evangeliste with his 4X4 who likes to drive at night with his blowings speakers. he is preaching full decibel that you can ear it from 5km away. When he isn t in his cruser he is at the temple, same sounds. When i ear thoses extreme loud speaches , this make me remenber Adolf Hitler 1933 films. I hope one day he shut his mouth so i can ear the colibries playing in the trees

I don't understand all the whining, surely all of you couldn't have bought into Sosua without researching first? It's a tourist town, it's gunna be loud. Is a red light zone, it's gunna have whores. It's in the DR, it's gunna have Dominicans as well. So on that last pointer alone, it is going to be loud and any changes very temporary.
