I need some dental work done: tooth extraction + bone graph insertion and need a good periodontist. My teeth are very sensitive due to my receding gum line so I need someone with magic hands. Preferably someone who uses laughing Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or any other methods to calm/relax a patient. If you guys can comment and also maybe include some costs I should expect that would be great. I'm in Santiago, Gurabo area, but doesn't have to be in Gurabo, just in Santiago. Cheers.

I am very happy with Janice Takenaka and her son Satoshy Takenaka (he specialized in Brasil).
Melisa Almanzar (Pucmm's teacher) for root canals. They make a great team.

I know those Drs, and they are good. There is also Dr. Llin?s up by the Monumento. Just a short block off of Sol, to the right at theat light by the beer place...Puerta del Sol? turn right, nice new offices there on the corner across from the colmado.

My young lady Dra, Rita Mu?oz has fantastic hands and she might be a fine alternitive for some work, and save you a bundle before you go for the implants. Dra Rita Mu?oz, Sabana Larga, between Beller and Restauracion, across from Quinto Patio bus station. If you speak Spanish, or slow English 809 971 5430.

Cordially,

HB..

Thanks everyone for the info's. I will be setting appointments for each this week. Anyone have an estimate on cost for extractions of 3 molars and bone graph? Got it done in NY for $1300US; 3 tooth extractions + bone graph.

Ok, so I visited Dr. Juan Alonso Genao Frias's son in los jardines; he said he could treat me without removing a teeth. I also visited Satoshy Takenaka but he disagreed and said that he would need to remove 2 teeth. I want to get a third opinion but I don't want to get the opinion from a implant specialist as they may be more inclined to suggest teeth removal. Could someone suggest a periodontist that doesn't do implants? In Santiago of course.

Chip - is that Dr. Calvo? Good man that one but getting old. Try Dra. Munoz, lisagauss. She's good and doesn't do implants. HB is right on with her - she's pretty honest about work that needs to be done, and if she can't do it will refer you to someone.

Thank you La Teacher. Rita would be a great third opinion....Most PUCMM grads are trained not to remove teeth if that are any alternatives.
Takenakas are solid, but remember (no knock on their talents) Las Bromelias is a high rent district...

I sent Dra Rita an emaiil with my sonogram; hopefully she can give me some honest advice. Im sitting in between two specialist's suggstions:

1) Dr. Dr. Juan Alonso Genao Frias' son suggested I get open flap gum surgerry in which I would keep my teeth. He says he can fill the bone loss gap with bone graph. Bottom line is that he said I don't need new teeth. He said that the Doctor in NY (which already removed 3 teeth) said he was inclined to remove teeth because he is an implant speciailist and therefore is to his benefit. I was very happy with his prognostic.

2) Then I went for a second visit to Dr. Satoshy Takenaka next to el Ayuntamiento. He said I needed to remove 2 teeth and get implants. I then proceeded to tell him that I had visited another Doctor and that he had said I could get open flap surgerry and keep my teeth. Dr. Satoshy said he wouldn't recommend that since I have significant bone loss and that in 15-20 years down the line I would need to remove those teeth anyway since the bone graph wasn't going to "hold on" to anything. BUT, and here is where I was a bit fishy, he said that he COULD do the open flap surgery and through the years we would have to follow my condition and see if my situatio would worsen.

That's where I need the opinion of a third specialist; preferably someone who DOESN'T do implants; such as Dr. Genao in Los Jardines. Im still open to any suggestions.
