Hopefully it doesn't take 2 years to construct, I use that intersection daily and can imagine what the tapones are going to be like while it's under construction.

It will be at least as fast to construct as the bypass. O wait maybe they would not need this new project if the bypass road was ever complete.

But even MORE gridlock for the 18 months of construction.

Will be excellent when it's done.

What's the progress on the bypass? We see some workers at Hispanamerica when we go to PriceSmart at the autopista...that will also help the traffic...

there would be an end to grid lock if Dominican drivers would simply learn not stop at red and not block the intersections.. do not block the intersections.. we learned in nyc. they can learn it here as well.. a massive public education campaign followed by ticketing. don't block the block

The Misnisterio de obras publicas recently announced that the Santiago bypass will be completed by February 21th 2014. I truly hope that they're not just talking out their a$$, the city is desperate need of the bypass. Danilo also promised many other projects for the city, such as the construction of a big central park in the old Cibao airport, and many more elevados, and tunnels in key intersections.

What about the Carretera Turistica? When does that come into play? My God, who plans out all this crap?

They should finish the city bypass first and then start on those Estrella Sadhalla projects, otherwise it will be painful.

Much more likely that it will be finished exactly on February 30th 2014 than on February 21st.

A nice secure central park would be absolutely awesome.

The Santiago bypass beltway is currently being worked on.

The Estrella Sadhala will become an express road, no stop lights for the center lanes all along the city. Think like the Corredor Duarte in SD. All bypasses, tunnels, etc...

That picture posted above is just but a single one of the many intersections that will be addressed in the coming months in Santiago.

Santiago will end up with 3 corredores that will crisscross the city and cut travel time from hours to minutes from all points. The traffic flow will also be addressed, given how narrow many of the streets in Santiago are. Most of the streets that feed or discharge traffic from major roads will be turned into one way streets and patterns of circulation established alongside the traffic lights to achieve a constant flow to avoid gridlock.

Like traffic lights, these are merely suggestions and rarely marked as such...
