Meeting at gas stations

I met a guy today on business who casually mentioned he's been to the Dominican Republic over 10 times. I began asking him about his experiences there, and he said one of the things he found somewhat strange is that his Dominican acquaintances typically prefer to use gas stations as a meeting point. He also said he met a nice young Dominican woman at a coffee shop and asked her if she'd like to go out with him that evening for dinner and drinks. She agreed and then immediately suggested they meet later on that day at the local Texaco station.

Has anyone else found this to be the case, and if so, why gas stations?

I see it all the time.
Cold Beer, and looks better than a tin shack!
No wives to see the girlfriends.
It's a "Macho" gathering place.
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
The woman didn't want him to meet her mother, or her 4 kids!

It's a screening tool for the girls. They can see what you drive and decide if you're worth their time. A guy in a new SUV can have his pick.

what are my chances to score in my pearl white suzuki grand vitara? ;)
gas stations are a domain of lower class. when i still lived in a city center i went to a nearby gas station a lot with my dominican girlfriends. we'd share few beers and gossip. always found a pal to join us, someone we knew. gas station is kind of like a colmado only with car noise instead of music.

Agree with dv8 it's pretty much limited to the lower class. Also, scares me when people light up cigarettes anywhere on gas station property.

It's a central meeting spot where all public transport arrives.
Not unlike american gas stations with coffee, beer, food and all you need..... the modern trading post.

And for younger, up to 25 or so crowd, students etc. There are popular gathering spots that change from time to time, e.g. The Shell station next to hotel Monumental in Santiago now.

JAJAJAJA I like the Texaco Parties. Guess I've moved into the low class for real! Always fights, police throwing the bloody victim into the back of their trucks.
Live Band and for the record I go with my wife.
Was gonna try Cabarete next Sat but i don't know that it will have that excitement :bored:

I thought it was the strangest thing ever when we first moved here! Still do but they are fun.
