We have all been suffering from the recent increase in robberies and thefts. Perhaps we should do what the Domnican Do - Have a Huelga !

Burning tyres in front of the Police Station in Sosua and wall to wall Porche Jeepettas from the Playero Traffic Lights to the Taxi Station and particulatly blocking the Metro Bus Station.

Robert will probably delete this post but I have put in a facebook link for Illana and posted it on Everything Cabarete.

We as Ringo said need to act as a Village - the Gringo Village of Sosua.

These are not Haitians but Dominicans . The Haitians are just the fall guys but the police know who these people are so why dont they act !!

I've got tires to burn even If I take them off my cars.

The problem is... we are gringos. We would need a lot of ... gringos.

Love the idea that fits the Dominican way.

Your ball and you run with it.

Sorry. I don't do those things so can not watch.

But I was thinking about what posters or message that we would have?

It's amazing the possibilities .... for equal and just rights.... ...... nah.

How about some? The list is so long I don't know where to burn my tire.

Really Olly. Very good idea but YOU have to lead this charge but... I'll be with you.

Actually I kinda like the idea of a gringo huelga.
Could just do a "Burning Man" thing and totally confuse them.
They wouldn't know whether to police it or embrace it.
It's gotta be better than the tired old La Vega carnival b.s.

Fayboo is way better for me than this DR Forum thing.
Lost it's punch long ago .... and here I am participating.
wtf....I can talk to old boring people too. Fit right in.

Olly start a "Harvest Fest" or "Burning Man" in Sosua and I will feel like I am in the Woody Harrelson Zombie movie... Every year.

Las Terrenas
burning tires?

Sadly, one day, the DR will become another pollution hotspot like China with that mentality.

That goes for those who like to burn their own trash as well. :ninja:

I'm solar so I'm not burning oil via Edenorte. (I can't afford what they charge.) I collect rain water. (cause the water company is so bad.) With no tires on my car, I'm not polluting via the car. (OK.. I'm not REALLY gonna do this.) I pick up the trash that I find in our area and I pay for the trash to be picked up every week. (that gets set on fire in the landfill.)

I'm allowed to burn a tire or four every now and then. :)

As a Dominican who's witnessed a few huelgas, be very careful and if you
do decide to burn tires make sure that's all you do!

Huelgas are not a pretty sight to see, there have been many injuries and
deaths. It's a way for Dominicans to show their discontentment and
letting out frustrations. Do not pi$$ off a police officer if he says pack up
and go home. This is where the trouble has started with Dominicans, they
refuse and the police have used force and then the people start throwing
rocks and by the time you know it shots are fired.

Remember you are not in the states or your home country where you are
allowed to start a riot and many times the police just stand by. In the DR
police do not like riots and if you are doing this in front of a police station
just make sure to keep it civil and believe it or not do as they say, when
they have said, it is enough, it would be very wise to listen.

Just some words of caution. Good luck to all of you.
