All over the world children and parents prepare for the 'return to school'. That is of course no different in Sos?a and this year, more than 500 (!) children can participate in the 'Sos?a Kids' program. 'Sos?a Kids' has been officially registered as a foundation since 2009, but the organization has been around since the 90s. It is a group of like-minded people who realized that education is the key step for progress. Sos?a Kids started with supporting only twelve children, but now, in the school year 2013, they give 500 children the opportunity to go to school.
Throughout the year there are retrieved gifts, there are charity events in many parts of the world. The proceeds of all these activities are used to purchase school equipment and the past days the backpacks with school supplies and vouchers have been distributed to the children. The backpacks were handed out by volunteers at locations such as Sos?a Beach Way Plaza, La Cienaga near Cabarete in Cienaga school, Cam?, Montellano, and at two different locations in Sabaneta.
Casa Nelson, a department store in Puerto Plata, helps the voucher program and has all the necessary school supplies in stock. With the voucher worth $75, the students, can purchase a school uniform in size and the backpack with all the school supplies in the department store Casa Nelson. Thanks to the support of the foundation Sos?a Kids 500 children from poor families can go to school for anther year. There is also a support program for successful children who continue their education at the University. Without the organizations, businesses and caring individuals that contribute to Sos?a Kids, none of this would be possible. These include 'Foundation help Sos??akids to school' a Dutch foundation, 'Beyond the Beach' from Canada, 'Mt Cervezaria' from Calgary, where a fantastic annual fundraiser for Sos?a Kids is held, as well as 'Hooters' of Calgary!
A golf tournament held in Millett, Canada, also supports Sos?a Kids on an annual basis. In Sos?a both Britainia bar and Jolly Roger Pub support the foundation. They donate part of the proceeds of Trivia and Bingo afternoons for Sos?a Kids.
