My wife slammed her finger in the door and developed that nail fungi problem.

We all know the NoAmerican cure - Lamisil - very costly.

The active ingredient is 'terbinafine'....

this is readily available in RD in the form of TERBIX.... both pill and liquid form.
Much more affordable... the solution was 600 pesos at the local pharmacia.

Two questions WW2:

1. Instead of Liquid form, do you mean the hand "Cream" form of Lamisil?

2. You said the solution was $600 at the local Pharmacy, but forgot to mention what that alternative form is? Rum? Viagra?

WW, i would advice consulting a doctor on this one. terbix alone, in a form of cream or solution, may not be good enough to clear the problem. usually a suggested treatment also contains a course of pills. in all, it is rather costly but worth it in a long run.

and frank, the alternative is bibaporu, of course! norway makes you forget all things dominican!

the TERBIX comes in pills and liquid, as far as I know..... maybe cream.

for nail fungus the solution applies better .. for skin rashes a cream might work better.... we weren't interested in ingesting the pills.

Rum, I find, cures almost anything..... I use it regularly

Viagra -- I'm waiting for a senior citizens' discount or an offer of a free trial.....
not for the pill but for a willing participant...:lick:

According to most dominicans, it also works for the flu, pecho trancao, mosquito repellent, etc

You must weigh potential liver damage done by the pills against an unsightly nail.
Alida has two toenails that respond very well with some anti-fungal drops applied twice a day.

One must also weigh potential liver damage done by recreational alcohol...:cheeky:

I'm not Norwegian. I live in Norway, but i'm part Ohio Beverly Hills Hillbilly and part Dominican Hillbilly. I grew up on Hee Haw and Gunsmoke. I have a huge gap in-between my front teeth and I bury my poop in my neighbors back yard here in Norway.

I also make a homemade Norwegian spirit called "Hjemmebrent." It's only known use is a substitute for Agent Orange or killing weeds.

Love Frank

Try soaking the affected toe nails in Listerine mouthwash for about half hour per day.

My grandmother always soaked her fingertips and toenails in a homemade recipe of whiskey, fresh lime juice, honey, cilantro, and formaldehyde. It's works wonders!

If all else fails, try either bleach, tequila, or diesel fuel.

Lamisil is in the antibiotic family. One should seek a medical Doctors advice for contradictions and interactions before undergoing a regimen of this long term antibiotic

Here we use vaporub as well against fungal infection of the nails and I must say, it works better than the daktarin nail polish the doctor advised me

What's with beautiful Dominican women and toenail problems? My ex-wife suffered from that too.

True on the moderation in drinking being wise. For many reasons. But terbinafine scares me:

Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of liver damage, such as nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). These events can occur whether or not you have ever had liver problems before.

Stop taking terbinafine and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat;
joint pain or swelling, swollen glands, patchy skin color, or a butterfly-shaped skin rash over your cheeks and nose;
changes in mood or behavior;
weight loss due to taste changes;
raised, silvery flaking of the skin; or
severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
Less serious side effects may include:

upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, mild nausea or stomach pain;
headache;
mild skin rash or itching; or
unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth.

Rather have a funky-looking nail.
