this is a little grafic image so im only posting the link, we went fishing today and caught a little bonito, while clearing it up we could see that some of its inside parts where full of worms, the meat itself did not seem to have worms.

by the amount of worms this fish must have been almost death

questions is, what are these worms, and is it still safe to eat, the dominicans say yes it is.

im shocked, how sick are these animals

Next time take pictures and post them please...... I would be interested to see what they look like and how many are infesting the fish... Normally you would find any worms in the meat when the fish get bigger and older....

I'm not a specialist but maybe what happened is that the fish ate little eggs in the water. And the eggs grew into the fish, becoming worms...

Dominicans say yes because it's safe for them. Most of them have much bigger parasites living inside their bodies, so these small worms are nothing. But it's not safe for normal people, who used to wash fruits before eating, and who don't sh#t where they eat.

the same as humans, fish get sick, as simple as that.
the basic rule for survival:
if you don't trust something on the forst sight, don't think abou8t it twice and just throw it away.
anyways,
Bonitos, the same as Barracudas, are by certain agen very likely toxic, in such case both bring you into the Hospital for some days to get your stommack cleaned in every lil details, in the worst case someone can die.
as a beginner of a fisherman, you should always stick with the guys who know, that's good to learn and it protects from the hospital costs for a whole family just because the wrong fish been eaten.
Bonitos and Barracudas are just well known examples, there is a good number of mfishies swimming out there which can be a killer for the unknown.

Mr. AE says the parasites in certain fish are seasonal. Some groupers also get them at certain times of the year. He says some Dominicans eat it anyway, but he wouldn't.

well its funny because im trying to learn from the guys that know the dominican fisherman, and about 6 of them told me that you can still eat the meat.
they also told me that it does happen to the wahoo and baracuda as well.

im totally disgusted by it and wont eat it thats for sure, but still would like to know whats the deal, because im hoping that thats not the last fish im catching.

these worms, in that large amount don't look seasonal, they look like a final illness of the fish, or is this fish just goin to live on with his intestines punctured by about dozens of worms, i don't think so, the fish was sick and the way it looks his days where counted.

If you have EVER eaten a fish, you have more than likely eaten some worms!
Cod Fish can be loaded, in the flesh too.
They ?Candle? some fish to see the worms and cut them out with a small ?Mellon Baller? before selling them.
I bought a cod fillet right off the boat once in Boston.
I opened the package and left it to prepare other food, when I went back, there were about 20 skinny white worms standing straight up swaying in the air!!
I threw it out!
I know I have eaten a lot of ?Fish Worms?, but not if I see them!
As long as the fish is cooked enough, the worms, as been said above, are just more ?Protien.
I do like my salmon, like my women,?PINK?on the inside!

WOW.. saw the pic.... Would not eat that one either...... Now I am not going to buy any more little Bonito's unless I see the guts too.... As for Barracuda... We had an old saying as I was growing up in the Bahamas..... "Long as your arm, do you no harm"... and eat only the white meat...

the same saying here, Sam, the same saying.
and as far as bonitos go, i simply don't eat them. their age is hard to tell, as they are small sized anyways, young or old doesn't matter. so just in case, i take no chances with bonitos. we have so many very tasty spezies in the Ocean, no bonito needed anyways.
