OK thoughts on Sosua Hospital??!!

Have heard many bad stories as techs/ Dr's not reading X-Rays correctly, ****ty service and have had witnessed 2 major not knowledgeable things happen in the last 9 months.

Your thoughts?

Treated totally different at SD and Santiago Hospitals, not even a comparison!! Those Hospitals ROCK IT! Treated like a queen my wife was on both different problems!

Just curious if we had bad luck and people we have talked to have had bad luck at Sosua as well?!!!

What ****es me off is that out Realtor said we were very near one of the best Hospitals which is clearly not the case. Yes they will say anything to sell a house i guess...

I agree with most of that. Our service has been good in terms of waiting time and people trying to explain the process. I have seen first hand with my son-in-law where they totally missed something on an x-ray. Diagnosis is no better than any other dump in the area. In fact at least a couple of the doctors that come into CMC also work at those other dumps. And they are not very sanitary with the blood and urine work. The guy didn't even put gloves on one time.

As you said it was so much different when I was in SD a few years ago. Night and Day. But as Vinyasa said it is the best hospital "in Sosua". Or in Cabarete or POP for that matter so the options are limited. You just have to be on your toes and question and double-check everything they do. If something doesn't sound right google it and maybe get a second opinion. Or if you can make the trip to Santiago do it.

My daughter in-law is going to school to be a doctor now and I'm surprised (not really) at how simplistic the process is. She may get afforded the chance to go to Colombia to study if she is near the top of her class so that would be a big deal. My guess is that most of the doctors here that are very good have studied out of the country based on what she has told me. Also her opinion based on what the professors tell her, is that the only good places to get work at a top clinic are SD and Santiago.

i heard that CMC is a decent place and certainly it is good enough for basic stuff. but you need to learn that for really good medical service a trip to santiago or SD is a must. i go to a local doctor (mejia, clinica brugal in POP) only when i have a cold or some stomach bug. daily stuff.
for yearly checkups we go to clinica union in santiago, cardiologo, ginecologo, laringologo, oftalmologo and more. we usually do few doctors in the same day to save time. luckily we both can take a day off without problems. miesposo's aunt is one of the big sharks in clinica union so we receive top notch services everywhere we go.

so yeah, keep all this in mind. reserve CMC for colds and other basic things and use santiago for everything else. and remember to get the health insurance if you still did not set it up. it has been a blessing for me, that's for sure.

cjp is correct about medical schools in DR. in poland just in order to study medicine you have to pass a rigorous entry exam. there are 8-10 candidates for every available place. the stupid ones are wiped out at the doorstep, only the best get in. out of them a certain percentage gets kicked out in the first year when they fail to pass any of about 10 exams they need to take during winter and summer eternal exams sessions. DR is not so strict.

Our experiences at CMC have been nothing but positive. My husband has had two surgeries there with excellent professional care. We know of several folks who have had more major emergency surgeries who would not have survived had CMC not been in our community.

Last week I spend 3 days in CMC with dengue. The service could not have been better. Blood pressure, blood work, fluids, doctors talking to me and all the nurses smiling and in a good mood....everything like clockwork. That was not my first time staying overnight. Every visit so far has been 100% satisfactory. I'm not sure what the ones complaining are expecting. I'm Canadian and used to good health care and at CMC it has been better.

.

Why would you recommend that somebody goes to the hospital for a cold????? a common cold lasts for 7 days and there is nothing a hospital can do about it.

Deviate,
Not sure you have been to CMC ? Its a long way from Costamber!

I agree with Seamonkey, Rattus, and Abuela. Our recent experience at CMC has been good but for some more specialist work other places are better.
Having said that I am extremely glad we CMC in Sosua.

That is my feeling also. I am very glad that we have CMC close by, but with one exception, the specialists that I go to are in HOMS in Santiago. For the most part, the specialists that consult at CMC also consult at Bournigal, Brugal, or other hospitals in Puerto Plata. Generally speaking, I don't think they are on the same level as those in Santiago and Santo Domingo.

There are exceptions. The doctor I go to in Bournigal for a respiratory condition is as good as you can find elsewhere so there is no need for me to look further. But for cardio, urology (except for routine check), and gastroenterology, etc., I have more confidence in the doctors elsewhere I have been steered to by doctors I have confidence in.

What bothers me that they do things to you without telling what they are doing and what they are administering into ur blood stream... If i ask what are they injecting they say THEY DONT KNOW! Or its a pain killer while i have no pain at all? Sent me home with compression fracture of a spine bone saying i am fine? Then ultrasound guy could not tell if i have ovulated or still only going to...

yeah, this is why i said that i've heard its a decent place. i've visited the CMC to see doctor spitale (spitali?) but for non medical reasons. most dr1ers have spoken highly of the place.

gee. cold can turn nasty too, not to mention the symptoms are similar to dengue. it is worth to visit a doctor when you feel worse than usual.

Yes i speak to them in spanish.

Ok, just a legit question due to the language barrier. Maybe you just had bad luck with them.

To me CMC is a godsend so that I don't have to go to POP. The overall consensus is that CMC is good for small ailments....dengue, kidney stones, flu, which are more common and then Santiago for bigger issues...cancer, heart and so on. Works for me!

It is always easier to talk crap about something, then appreciate the good things we have here.

Sometimes certain posters forget the tiny detail that we are living in a very poor country. If you dont like it her- Then please leave.

Never said I didn't like it here. I won't go to sosua Hosp again unless a must. This is a poor country yet the hospitals in SD and Santiago seem to be better than in Canada or at least the service!!
Sure sosua is the best in the area by far I am sure but that doesn't say much!

When I was told it was a good hospital i expected them to be able to read X-rays correctly which 2 times they have not for us and 2 other expats they missed major things like a broken back!!!!
